He was injured a lot but did look much better than Deeney when he was fit.

Mind you Deeney was playing on one knee ..

Off the top of my head, Welbeck has scored the odd goal but every season curtailed by injury. Usually knee. Deeney is a one goal in three striker, Welbeck nowhere near. He may look good sometimes, but is ineffective and weak - which I hope we don't have to find out for ourselves. He scored two goals for Watford last season in nearly 20 games. Deeney scored double figures. There is no real comparison. One is a genuine striker, the other flatters to deceive. We may dislike Deeney, but he is miles better than Welbeck, who would probably be best off somewhere in the Championship, or abroad, where there are less physical sides.

Welbeck always puts me in mind of Frasier Campbell - plenty of graft and a willing runner. But no way a prolific goalscorer

I agree Deeney has been excellent but last season was troubled by a knee injury.

There are a few fans who would be glad to see the back of him .

Some feel he is past his best.

Like you say Welbeck is a willing runner but not a natural goalscorer.

Bit of football trivia.

His Dad, Stan, was in the bomb disposal unit.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Ayew always reminds me of Campbell but with a bit more skill. Both put the effort in, neither are natural goal scorers. I think Ayew’s tally this season is a good number for him and I don’t think he will ever be knocking in 15-20 goals a season. Doesn’t mean he is not a decent player though. It’s a massive no from me for Welbeck however.

I can imagine Roy right now on his knees in Parish's office begging to sign Welbeck and probably Wilshere too

Hodgson 'Taking the knee'.
Given his advanced years I suspect he might be a tad sluggardly rising to his feet.

Well he never quite managed to get down on his knee at Chelsea

I noticed that, just gave me a little chuckle.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
