Michael Owen, for once

Although Michael Owen is admired for his sharpness as an international forward, he did come across as a light-weight. Once defenders learned this his game was over. So what was his contribution on the panel of experts for today's game? For most of the time he said very little except the usual. And then...when discussing what on earth Palace can do the counter the big City menace, he blithely suggested Palace play up the pitch, thus forcing the city team to hold back for fear of giving Wilf and Andros the space they love to create their usual havoc. And guess what, despite the guffaw of his fellow panellist that's what happened and it worked.

He was on the Collymore show on RT recently - opened up a bit more - talked about that goal v argies - admitted his fearlessness had a lot to do with his early success, like he didn't really understand all the pressures and just played his game - wouldn't call him thick by a long chalk, but like a lot of English players not very alternative or expansive in his thinking, more nuts and bolts and pragmatism- strikes me more as someone who's naturally quiet and gets on with it rather than someone who likes to wax lyrical, doesn't like to give too much away but when he does speak his mind it tends to be worth taking note

He was on the Collymore show on RT recently - opened up a bit more - talked about that goal v argies - admitted his fearlessness had a lot to do with his early success, like he didn't really understand all the pressures and just played his game - wouldn't call him thick by a long chalk, but like a lot of English players not very alternative or expansive in his thinking, more nuts and bolts and pragmatism- strikes me more as someone who's naturally quiet and gets on with it rather than someone who likes to wax lyrical, doesn't like to give too much away but when he does speak his mind it tends to be worth taking note

Yes, who has always struck me as a bit ‘dim’, and who once proudly stated that he’d never read a book in his life. Money and success doesn’t necessarily equate to intelligence.

No need to apologise my friend. On reflection I’m guilty of being a bit mean to the fella. I did, after all, punch out a light fitting when he scored ‘that goal’ in 1998, so I hold him in high regard as a former player.
