In light of Chelski signing Barkley wonder if RLC will think his chances of getting a squad place, let alone a team place, have diminished enough that he will want to leave at the end of the season? Would he then join us? In light of his preferred position & likely further England games I think he will get offers from bigger clubs with european football to offer; which would rule us out of signing him permanently. If we give him his preferred playing position now would it be enough to sway him? Is it worth changing the system to try to achieve this? Thoughts?

No, we stay with what works for Roy and the team. If he did decide to leave Chelsea it wouldn't be for us anyway as he'd have much better offers.

That is my feeling Dave, just wanted to see what others thought. He's a local lad as well, but think as sure he will get other options just use him for the season & then see what happens.

It depends if he has fallen in love with the club. This rarely happens in the day of the rich footballer but some players are still passionate, this worked well for signing Sakho.

I can't imagine when he started his loan from Liverpool, he had any effection for Crystal Palace and just wanted to get himself in the shop window. You can see how much it means to him when the stadium is chanting SAKHO! SAKHO! at him.

Loftus-Cheek seems a different personality though, is cool and composed and may think with a business cap on.

Fair play if he does, and if he does, he could probably get a starting place at United, Liverpool or Spurs before needing to consider us.

I do think we're starting to look like a more promising destination than the likes of Stoke, Swansea, Bournemouth, Watford now, basically anyone outside of the top 5 plus Everton. Which is a huge bonus when trying to sign players.

Agreed, however, there's a small nagging doubt in my mind that maybe he 'gets' Palace & buys in to the club's ethos (and possibly likes the thought of being a big fish in our pond).

He may get offers from bigger clubs but will he be a starter at any of them? He genuinely seems to just want to play so may make decisions on that basis rather than the status/money etc. After all, he has broken into the full England team whilst playing for us & seems to respond well to Roy.

It would be great if he signed for us.

If I were Roy I would point out that he would be a first choice player at Palace. If he goes to a bigger club now I doubt that would be the case. However if he gave us 2 seasons and continues to perform he will get his move to a big club as an established player rather than a young squad player with potential.

All this assuming Chelsea will sell him.

Has huge potential but hasn’t really impressed me that much for us. Having said that has been deployed on wing which isn’t his position

Obviously wouldn’t say no a permanent deal as we need quality and he has huge potential

But so far and I’ve watched every game he needs to do more as far as I’m concerned

I agree this is my overall opinion too. As many have pointed out he is being played out of position in fairness to him.

I'm in this camp...I agree with what both Mike and BexDave say about better offers elsewhere...but he's still only 21 and as such he's learning from Roy at the moment and clearly feels part of the squad, so whilst unlikely i wouldn't be surprised if we at least put an offer in.

i've said in other threads - he'll never get regular game time at Chelski. they're track record of developing young players speaks for itself. with barkley going there - RLC's chances have diminished further. we should try to have him replace yohan as our centre-midfield playmaker. he is developing the passing vision but his legs are obviously better.

stranger things have happened - like Liverpool selling us their best defender and buying a slightly better one for three times as much money!

No, we have him on a season loan, let him be. We don't want to lure him out from Chelsea, just let him see the season out, and when he goes say 'he's always welcome in our first team, and make an offer towards the start of the new season, after the pre-season, when its clear he's not going beyond being on the bench.

Let them be the ones who 'denied him the chance to play at the top level' and we can be the team that always believed he could, and kept faith with him.
