I like Jack Colback. I've always liked him. He was regarded as one of the finest central midfielders in the PL a few years back, he was very fast and even appeared in the opposing box scoring. Left footed, could also play left back or left wing. Sunderland was powerful with him in the team. He was a national team member. Then something happened and he went down in the Championship with Newcastle and got forgotten.

He hasn't played at all for them this season. At least he's rested. No big injuries as far as I know, so unless he's forgotten football, he should still be very good. Never trust Benitez in regards to the players he plays or doesn't play. If he comes cheap or for free, he's worth to take.
Better than Milivojevic in my opinion (despite the big fanbase I know hr has here, who will kill me for saying this )

Regarded as one of the finest in the prem? Hahaha by who exactly ? Wasn’t even highly thought of by Sunderland fans and they laughed when he went to Newcastle. Nowhere near luka , hence why he can’t get near the Newcastle team and is heading back down to the champ.

Not the worst rumour around! Just hope we get a central defender, a striker (or two) and maybe a winger in. As it stands now, we are seemingly after goalies from Spain and Ipswich, strikers and defenders from Celtic, Italy, France and Watford. Among others! Please get what we need over the line - hopefully before January 31st at 11.pm!

Before the injuries to our defence, RH said he wanted to add a DM to provide cover. Given Roy's seeming ability to re-ignite form, Colback's versatility and the [by today's standards] giveaway price, something of a no-brainer for me.

You have to see this not through the eyes of Geordie/Maccem fans but from the perspective of whether he would be an upgrade and/or provide the better cover compared to the current crop of back-up midfielders.

Mutch out/Colback in?

I tend to agree with this, just because he won't cost 18-30m doesn't make him a bad player.

A good squad player to have similar to mcarthur. Terrier like.

Wow. You may have outdone yourself with some of these gems.

A good squad member perhaps, not a lot more than that, especially with hardly any gametime in the last year. Our priorities should be with the areas we are struggling with and the midfield is our strongest right now.

Quite; or a first teamer if he rediscovers his form. Obviously, he would have to prove himself in development/cup games but could be there to press for a start come the run-in.

As others have said, would not cut into the budget for our pressing priorities. Do it.
