Just a thought I've had on the morning commute. Just saw in the links below he's out of contract this summer.

Lets be honest, the way he was playing a short time back would've likely meant he'd have been released and quite likely come end of summer, he'd be plucked up by a championship club at best.

Just a question, is it not beyond the realms of possibility he could be one of those infamous lazy git players that only wake up when they want a new or decent contract?

Some may shoot me down but it's only a random thought that just passed me sorry

Marco Reich, Tommy Black etc have all suddenly started playing wonderful football just as their contract was near completion and then gone back to being total sh*te.

Or it could be that he's had a lot of injuries, has never had a decent run of games to get fit, and has been played in various positions so we're only now seeing what he can do when given a reasonable amount of game-time.

You may be right but I suspect Bakary's improved form is more likely due to a higher level of fitness. He's picked up quite a few injuries over the past couple of seasons and hasn't had a great amount of game time.

The fitness level of the whole squad suffered under Alan Pardew but Sam worked on that, and Roy has continued to improve the stamina and positional awareness of the team.

Although he's still a stocky guy, he seems to look a lot trimmer now and is getting more match fit. A few goals have boosted his confidence and I believe he's responding to a manager who knows what's best for both the team and the individual players.

He's a good player to have in the squad and I hope we offer him a new contract.

Higher level of fitness plus a greater respect & understanding of the manager too. Might be wrong but he genuinely looks like he's enjoying playing more than ever now.

No. He’s always been full of enthusiasm, but lacking in skills, reminded me of a puppy. Roy’s added fitness and coached in more skills, & he’s still got that puppyish enthusiasm.

Can't really blame him if he is. Been a bit part player his whole Palace career. Early days he looked good with a great strike on him. Injuries have obviously played their part. He hasnt had an opportunity in any of his games to unleash that hammer of a left foot of his. I think he has come on leaps and bounds with Roy and he's a good squad player for us. I think he also gets the club and fans and seems enjoy it here.

I think he’s just suffered with injuries and game time to get match fit. He’s always had the enthusiasm. I thought when we played West Brom pre season he looked a lot fitter.

As current market is crazy, its a no brainer, he will cost about 1.5 million for a year extension, cant think of who else better for that money, fee plus wages

Why pay? Lots of "free" players available at the end of the season and they try their best every match, mostly.
