An interesting article that, reading between the lines and things Roy has said in previous interviews such as "I haven't heard that" regarding questions about transfers, and this article where he says he wasn't privy to the owner's meeting with CPFC sports science but that it "would have been interesting" tempts worrying fears that Roy is being excluded and kept in the dark.

I felt this before with other managers (except Pardew) SP not connecting with them socially, keeping them in the dark regarding transfers, possibly making them feel like worthless pieces of sh1t? Pure speculation, but I reckon SP is unwittingly beginning to p1ss off another manager.

I mean, FFS, why wait until the window opens to start talks and find out IN JANUARY that there are problems with deals? Schoolboy stuff? Or someone not really wanting to buy anyone at all?

That's your interpretation of the article then. How many other clubs have been signing loads of players so far?
It is well known that signing players has become more difficult with agents expectations, clubs not wanting to sell or holding out for a bigger fee, especially in January when clubs are desperate.
Going back to the Jordan and Dowie era, not getting the player over the line, was almost their catchphrase, so it's nothing new.

I can't recall why but I was under the impression that as far back as Holloway managers had minimal influence on transfers with SP acting more or less as a director of sport. Entirely possible that I'm completely wrong though.

None of us have a clue what’s going on behind the scenes. I imagine it’s a lot. I think speculating on Roy and Steve’s relationship based on one article is possibly getting a little carried away. Very difficult to do business during January but I’ve little doubt they’re all busting a gut to do whatever they can. Half think it’s gesturing like with the Brexit negotiations I.e let the people your negotiating with think you’re prepared to walk away with no deal so they don’t have you over a barrel. At the same time we should do business earlier and pay more if necessary (if we can) if we want security with any deal or we may have a re run of Niasse.

Absolutely right - which of course Hodgson mentioned in the article.
All clubs are working 24/7 to secure targets.
What is clear is that with all our injury woes unless we manage to add to our squad with some decent signings we will slip through that relegation trapdoor.

I'd have thought, Palace, more than any other team in the PL, given what happened to our start and first 7 games, would have been a lot keener, earlier and active in this window than any other PL club. If we don't significantly strengthen the squad this January, and more key players become unavailable through injury, then we still have a good chance to go down. It wouldn't be out of the question to see Zaha or Benteke or other key players injured again. And BTW, it appears that Roy himself might be thinking the same thing. Just saying...

I have expressed these same sentiments.
Problem is that getting our 'Targets over the line' could prove very difficult over the course of the month but this applies to all teams.
I happen to believe that whether we stay up or go down will be determined by our dealings in this 'Window'- no decent signings and we will be relegated.

Thanks for sharing. I am not sure that I agree with your interpretation OP, but one thing seems certain and that is that Roy is building things in exactly the way that we would all hope. I am a long term supporter of SP, but if we repeat the same mistakes of the past and alienate Roy then my confidence will take a bit of a dent.

Remember that this media stuff is all a sideshow anyway, the Managers have to do it, they can be asked whatever the media wants and you shouldn’t take all of the answers as gospel.

Roy’s “I haven’t heard that” is probably a bit like Wenger’s “I haven’t seen the incident” answer when asked about contentious decisions.

Roy is being coy. Why should he reveal behind the scenes goings on to the press?

sadly there is always someone willing to leak to press, no secrets anymore, therefore no smoke, no fire
