I have been reading that Sunderland want to rip up Jack Rodwell's contract because of the situation they are currently in. I wonder if he is worth a punt? A classic tale of moving to a top 6 (Man City) club too soon and then losing his way. I think he could be a good alternative to RLC who will probably fall in to obscurity at Chelsea before resurfacing somewhere like Southampton. Apparently his injury problems have settled down and reports are that he is in good condition and wanting to "love playing" again - I have a feeling that Selhurst might be a great place for him - if it worked out we would get an awesome player for not much lay out.

He's done nothing for many years to suggest there's an "awesome" player there at all.

Not enthusiastic about this suggestion at all.

I think he started off as a centre-half.Perhaps 5 years ago I believe I read that he had suffered 9 hamstring injuries in the previous year ! Dick Advocaat said he needed to add more aggression to his game - perhaps the numerous hamstring injuries had a part to play in this.

Sunderland fans couldn't rate him any less. Terrible buy for them.

In fairness to the OP, Rodwell was a very hyped up youngster and without following the ins and outs of Sunderland it can easily be missed that it's not only his injuries that have kept Jack out of limelight but also his terrible performances. I guess it's the ol' young-english-potentially-alright-probably-not-great hype that so many are cursed with.

We are not the football equivalent of rehab. Where once we were all prudent football fans hoping we could trade our pennies for some magic beans, most of the time we just ended up with beans. Now though we are a Premier league side able to attract real talent in their prime but we have to pay the asking price for that privilege.
