I see Shaun Derry has left Cambridge United by "mutual consent". Poor old Shaun hasn't exactly had a stellar career as a manager, with an average win % of 36.8 in Leagues 1 and 2. Not a suitable candidate to be managing in the Premier League I would say.

A downward spiral you might say. In statistical terms this is the case but I don't think he has spent any money on transfers, I think all his signings have been Free or on Loan. There might have been other extenuating circumstances - I just don't know. Been some changes amongst the hierarchy at Camb Utd with Dave Doggett resigning as Chairman not that long ago and now Chief Exec Jez George also leaving. I remember going on a supporters coach to Camb Utd, many, many years ago.

Lovely fella Shaun. Had a beer and a chat to him last year when he hadn’t been in the job too long. Very knowledgable football man.

These lower league clubs expect miracles, they don't spend money on transfers so you only get to pick from the s*** no one else wants. Mid table League 2 is probably their natural level so doesn't really deserve the sack

Derry was one of the greatest to ever don the Palace shirt. He could teach a lot of younger players the meaning of 'putting your body on the line'.

Derry was certainly a tough tackler and fierce competitor who had the ability to break up play and also had a 25yd free kick in his locker amongst other attributes but in my estimation I wouldn't shower him with such accolades.I have been a supporter of the club since the 60s !

I used to work with Shaun's father-in-law, Bob, when he was first at Palace and dating his now wife. Although i never met him Bob always spoke highly of him and i got a few posters I had signed by AJ and others courtesy of Shaun. Used to hear a few stories too. Bob Dowie didn't come across well. And from what i heard the treatment of Torghelle wasn't very nice.

I like Shaun Derry. He's better than Stevie G and more faithful than John Terry.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |
