I think these guys are linking up so well together when both played up top. I don't want to speak too soon but I think we may have a special partnership like the Clinton and Dougie of the old days. Playing Sorloth up top next to Benteke seems to of helped Benteke play better rather then leaving him isolated on his own. Thoughts?

Meh, didn't really work that well. They won some headers there, but....I can't remember any finished counter attack. Because the 2 strikers were really tall and pretty slow. Especially when you play a team like United, which pressures you, I think you have better odds of scoring if you have some small in height, fast players to run on counter attacks.

Benteke was dangerous at 1 Townsend cross but it was a positional attack, not a counter attack.

Sorloth is pretty cumbersome on the ball, and pretty leggy. Let's see (in the Chapionship, most likely at the moment...)

We needed and still do, a fast paced striker. An aj type.

Granted hard to come by but we should've invested in someone with some true pace.

Sorloth will come good I'm sure but he needs someone nippy beside him just like benteke does

They don't need each other.

The only formation where they'll compliment each other is one where there's a nippy cam behind them.

Against United where there was a big gap between the front two and the midfield it worked ok, but not brilliantly, but against teams where we are more on the front foot I think it could work. Sorloth is soooo strong. Defenders just seem to bounce off him. He does look like he needs to up his fitness though as he does move pretty slowly when he doesn't have the ball.

And so reliant, yes your correct of course, but if we had someone fast in the middle it would make the world of difference.

Nevermind

Get Chelsea out the way next week and Zaha back and we'll be fine for the run in

Hardly. Two big men stuck up front with no other options in the squad. Hopefully Sorloth will come good when he gets up to full match fitness and adjusts to the PL, but if Benteke is going to form a partnership, it will be at another club.

Nah, 2 target man, ones bad enough. People getting so excited over Sorloth and absolutely destroying Benteke but I was much more encouraged when a ball was played to Benteke tonight than the former, Sorloth looks as slow as anything, immobile and lacks the understanding of football at a half decent level.

I must admit that having thought Sorloth would offer us something tonight, being played as a forward finally, I was disappointed with his performance. He looked slow, awkward and for a big man doesn't seem to win a lot in the air. I hope he improves in future games.

Think that’s harsh on Sörloth. He doesn’t have too much pace but he’s strong and large. He’s been thrown in at the deep end. Looked dead on his feet at the end of the game as most of them did. They gave their all. Couldn’t have asked for much more. Think he’ll improve and looking forward to seeing him develop.
