It irks me just how much the media ask Roy for punditry about non-Palace matters during pre-match press conferences. No doubt that's due to his status as a former England manager and because a lot of the clubs we play are bigger news than Palace (and therefore get more clicks).

look out for, effectively, this gem in the next few days:

Mo Salah is a good footballer - Hodgson

It would be great if the fans could pose a legitimate question or two.

To that end, if you could ask Roy one genuine question at the pre-Liverpool press briefing that you dont think the press will ask, what would it be?

Here's mine:

Is the fact Rakip and Jach never played, despite moments when the team really need a boost, an indictment on the club's January transfer dealings?

Good question; this January wasn't the time to be buying "ones for the future", unless the future Parish had in mind was the Championship.

Hodgson is too much of a diplomat to necessarily give you an honest answer to that question so he's unlikely to say that they were foisted on him

Listening to former players what they said about Roy, I dont believe he had no dealings with the signings, he is a gentleman but a hard task master,so i dont think they could push players on him that he didnt think he could work with,
The question i would ask what has held back the new signings from playing in our hour of need

a better way of putting it by far. still think it would be good to see questions from fans rather than hacks who've no interest in us

I would like to ask Roy. "Despite having over 40 years in football management, there are plenty on HoL that seemingly know much better than him. Why then doesn't he come on to HoL to ask for help?"

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I think you can't really say when the right time to get a gem would be - fact is, we feel they will become good players, so we got them in. If we don't, others will.
But, what should have happened, is we should have viewed them as bonuses - not as answers.
We should have got in a decent keeper to compete with WH and a striker that will be competing or improving Benteke.
Anyways, saturday is an important fixture and i feel positivity is the key.

Palace have had a good record in developing young players, so how does this sector appeal to you, Roy, in team selection?

best question so far. perhaps to make it topical: Wan-Bissaka has stepped up extraordinarily well. Are there many others who're on the brink of a breakthrough like he's managed?

The problem with such a question , Ginger, is just how much Roy would be willing to say? Bring a good player on too soon can be the worse thing to do. But not doing so can dent their ambition. And can a manager say too much and give away information?

as promised...roy shocks world by saying Salah is good:

[Link]

btw that's not to demean him saying this...but is it really an insightful comment for Palace fans? salah's banging in almost a goal a game in the most competitive league in the world...of course he's among the best players in the world.
