There will be referees at the World Cup who are inferior to those who officiate in the PL. Just like the 'World Cup' doesn't contain the top 32 teams, the 'World Cup' is not refereed by the top 36 officials in the world.

We have a poor crop of referees right now, to the point that the few can be relied on to be consistent is dwindling to maybe two.

Edited by Willo (29 Mar 2018 7.35pm) I believe that FIFA chooses a pool of referees about 2 years before the world cup and then tracks their performance until they make their final decision. Clattenburg was our candidate so as soon as he left for Saudi he dropped as in it as their is no replacement process. This story came out today but Talksport reported this months ago it is not new news just the way the process works.
