A filthy VW Golf overtook me on the M40 this evening. On the back someone had written in the filth: CLEN ME Any other (better) examples of rubbish grafitti please?

All grafitti is rubbish. Simple as. If it was art, artists would finish their work in a (painted) picture frame.

Anyone a similar age to me must remember "Case" being written on numerous walls around Croydon. Was completely rubbish by today's standards but sticks in my memory.

I do remember it, from my forays from Bexley to Selhurst Park. Did it actually mean anything? Was it just someone’s ‘tag’ (if that's the right word)? There was another on a wall on my regular route to CPFC - in Beckenham I think - just a plainly-painted SAPP. No idea what that meant either, but seeing it every other Saturday was (weirdly) part of the excitement of the build-up to a match. I guess that then - as now - I needed to get out more!

Bill Stickers is innocent. Mildly amusing the first time I saw it but seemed to be everywhere in the late 70s. As a little s*** in the late 70s and early 80s I would graffiti the back of the seats on London buses with Palace Mods. I was one of the only mods in attendance so it was particularly stupid thing to do.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

There was a spell ‘back in the day’ when grafitti became a popular source of humour ie in newspaper cartoons etc. One I remember was meant to be on a school wall: (Writer #1) DOWN WITH GRILS (Writer #2) DON’T YOU MEAN ‘GIRLS’? (Writer #3) WE GRILS DEMAND THE RIGHT TO BE DISLIKED! On reflection, I think you had to be there...

As a yoof in the early '70's, I remember the initials 'KBW' liberally splashed around south east London. I still have no idea what it stood for. Anybody?

Rubbish graffiti in East Croydon (although it could be fake as I don't know anyone who has seen it). [Link] warning, link take you to NSC. Edited by topcat (15 Apr 2018 6.52pm)
