Hmm - surely the money (if sold) should go back to government, not the FA.

Nice typo at the bottom that adds 30 years on to the payoff date. As for the story, it's daft. They've got a few years of rental income nigh on guaranteed with Chelsea looking to follow Spurs in using it as a temporary home, on top of the NFL payments, concerts, national games, cup games etc.

Their governing body is just as useless, and arguably more crooked, as ours. Their players and national team mask all of this with good results though. Germany didn't have national unity until 30 years ago, never mind a national stadium.

I'm happy for it to be sold, so long as the government bodies get back the money plus interest that was put into it. The only football to be be played at Wembley should be finals (cup finals and play-off finals) and some England matches. This would leave Chelsea having to ask Arsenal, Spurs or West Ham to share although at least they would be used to the lack of atmosphere. If they shared the tax payers stadium, would the money go to the government?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

I would bite Khan's hand off for the money he is rumoured to have offered. This is a fantastic opportunity for the FA. 1. The FA has to go begging to the Premier League for a lot of their revenue to fund grass roots football. In Rugby the bulk of the revenue goes to the RFU who then distribute to the clubs. The golden rule, he who has the gold makes the rules. This would give the FA financial independence and would allow a major injection of funds into grass roots. Some posters has said what about the taxpayer, good point. The government should insist the FA work with other sports to create and share multi sports centres so the taxpayer is paid back that way. 2. England games should not be centered in London. Whilst Wembley was being built many of the players said how much they enjoyed playing around the country. This is a great opportunity to bring the fans and England closer. It doesn't have to happen all the time only when the games clash with the NFL. I would rather a England game with 50,000 passionate Geordies or Mackems and not everyone can afford to travel to London.

On a point of order - not so much on here but certainly from the comments people have made on the BBC Sport website, there seems to be an understanding that Wembley is “the national stadium”. Is this description factual, does anyone know?
