Free player. Deserves his own tread.
Yes, when you look at his age, you don't like the fact that he's 31. But the guy has absolutely no fat on his body, he is a player who actually is 2-3 years younger in terms of real abilities than what his ID says. He's all fibre.

Didn't play much in China as Chinese teams can only play 3 foreign players at a time and his team (best in Asia- Guanghzou Evergrande) chose to play Ricardo Goulart, Alan and Paulinho as long as he was there (yes, Barca's Paulinho). Still, 4 goals and 2 assists for Jackson Martinez in 900 minutes in China.

He left Europe from Atletico Madrid where he didn't have much success. 3 goals and 2 assists in 900 minutes. He wasn't actually given a full year to integrate into the squad as they sold him when the incredible offer of 37 million came from the Chinese.

But his real success was with FC Porto, he played a lot for them so we can have a real picture of what his real abilities are: 67 goals and 11 assists in his last 7800 minutes in the Portuguese league and 9 goals and 1 assist in 1300 minutes in the Champions League (that's pretty much a goal or an assist every 100 minutes). Only 8 of all his goals were penalties (as opposed to Benteke, who has a third of his Aston Villa goals scored from the penalty spot).

I'd say Jackson Martinez still has about 3 more years at top level. But I don't think any of the top 6 teams will go for him. If he does come back to Europe it must be to a mid-table team. And comparing him to strikers from mid table teams in the PL (Cenk Tosun, Chris Wood, Hugill, Benteke, Ulloa, Depoitre, Hemed, Joselu, Jordan Ayew) I can assure you that at least 3 years from now on he'll be better than all of those. And he doesn't demand a fee of 30 million like Tosun. Only his salaries (which are affordable by PL standards) and something something for his agent.

Can you see why some posters on here may have a problem with this guy based on your comments? He will hit peak the day his legs go!

For me I will need a lot of convincing for a player who chased the Yuan but still didn't get picked for the first team.

When you pointed out he can't even get a game in China my mind was made up. No thanks.

He was up against the former 2 times top goalscorer of the league (Goulart), Paulinho (Brazil national team member) and Alan, a Brazilian player who was one of the best goalscorers in Europe when playing for Salzburg (ahead of teammate Sadio Mane, now in Liverpool). Chinese teams can only field 3 foreign players at a time.

He did all right as long as he played but they decided to be rid of his salary, that's why he didn't play more. The team was really good for the Chinese level, they won the league with or without Jackson Martinez.
