I hope it's okay to post this here, as a single location for discussion about this summer's transfer window. Apologies if it's not - the moderators can lock it.

What do people think our net spend this summer will be? I saw one post suggesting we're already up against the FFP buffers and so players will have to leave before others join. I feel that's pessimistic, but I could easily see a net spend of, say, only £10 million. That sort of outlay might not be super appealing to the likes of Wilf.

Broadly speaking, what do you think a genuinely realistic window looks like for us? We're clearly still not fantastic at scouting -- but then again when you look at the teams struggling, you realize it's a harder skill than many would credit.

If we're recruiting, what sort of expenditures do you think we need for the positions in question? And do you think we will actually spend that money?

I think the reality is that FFP does hit us hard and I think many fans find this hard to take. I think it is FFP that is capping our transfer activity and not Parrish as many on here would like to believe.

It harks back to the January of Big Sam when he bought in Sakho, Schlupp, PVA and Milivojevic. I seem to recall it being said we spent the following summers transfer budget then. We have been paying back for this ever since and culminated in the January's window in which only Sorloth was bought in, much to many's disgust. People were clamoring we spend an extra 4-8 mill to bring Guiata in earlier than the end of the contract and we didn't (probably due to cost and it has certainly proved the right decision as we have not been relegated due to WH).

So, we have a lot of `deadwood` in the squad and it has proved difficult to clear these out: Lee, Mutch etc. A lot will depend on how much wages can be shed by not renewing contracts and if we can actually ell any fringe players.

Depends on contracts - it would be a bit burdensome to extend Cabaye's contract at this point in his career, but you can't replace him with someone of similar quality without spending a fair amount either. If Kelly and Ward are released as well, we'll look a bit thin at the back.

Reported wages that are coming to an end are:

Julian Speroni £25,000
Wayne Hennessey £20,000
Joel Ward £35,000
Martin Kelly £25,000
Damien Delaney £20,000
Timothy Fosu-Mensahn £20,000
Yohan Cabaye £60,000
Bakary Sako £55,000
Lee Chung-Yong £25,000
Ruben Loftus-Cheek £60,000

Total of £345,000 per week which is 17.9 mill in wages over a year. Obviously I doubt we will drop all of them but for me I'd say at only 20,000 a week WH would be worth keeping. I think Ward and Kelly should be released, we can use AWB and Jach to replace them Damo and Speroni, Love u guys but your time is up. If we can I'd keep Cabaye. Lee and Sako to go (Especially considering Sako's massive wage.

If Jach is a suitable replacement for Kelly why hasn't Roy had him in the squad

If we let Ward go who will understudy AWB as you are letting Kelly go too

I think we would look to bring in new squad players with potential to develop. Ward has been a great servant to the club but we have seen with AWB's recent inclusion we have a just as good replacement for him who has further potential to develop.

As for Jach I expect he has been bought with the future in mind and he has been integrated into the squad, although I do admit I had expected him to at least have made an appearance on the bench. But Kelly isn't getting any younger and his value will just diminish and we may as well use his wages to get someone who has potential to improve.

Am I the only one who doesn’t feel we need a lot? A bit of continuity would be very welcome after recent summers. Guaita and an attack mid - Shaquiri would be the dream - and I think we’d be in a very strong position going in to next season.

If punk ever happened I'd be preaching the law, instead of listenin to Lydon lecture BBC4

I agree with you. I see this summer as an oportunity to release some funds from squad players and get in replacements with potential. Would like to see as you have said an attacking midfielder but also a young understudy to Zaha/Townsend. Apart from that nothing else needed assuming we decide to stick with Tekkers rather than cut our losses with him.

We need at least 2 RB and by releasing Ward and Kelly. we will only have 1 so would have to recruit and pay higher wages. Kelly can also play across defence and with Dann out with a serious injury and Damo going We should keep. Ward is currently injured so will not find another club so in view of his service/loyalty I feel it would be heartless not to offer extension. In my view both will be offered new contracts.

Julian Speroni will go

Wayne Hennessey is talking about a new contract

Cavilleri will probably go too

Damien Delaney will go.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah will return to Man U and has not been a first team regular recently

Lee Chung-Yong will go

Rakip who knows? Strange decision to get on loan and not play.

That leaves

Yohan Cabaye who will be offered a new lower contract but may not accept

Bakary Sako he has been impressive this season and with his injury will he get other takers? Wolves is obvious choice but will they want this risk on return to EPL?

Ruben Loftus-Cheek I think we will try to keep if he goes to World Cup he may be too expensive.

Other Players who may go are Souare (do we need 3 Left Backs), Mutch (has effectively gone he is on loan (some or all of wages covered) till end of year with a right to buy), Puncheon is also likely to leave. I can't see
a future for KaiKai, Innis or Johnny Williams.

If Cabaye and RLC leave we will need to purchase replacements

We need a 3rd Keeper

Is Wilf now going play off the striker? If so we need a replacement on wings and cover for Andros

It may be a busy summer
