While two Americans have been appointed to referee at the World Cup, no English refs are going. A little surprising, isn't it? Clattenburg may ave gone but he lost the chance by taking the job in Saudi Arabia. No Atkinson or Taylor either.

That's because they are all sh**e. Clattenburk is the worst of the lot and thankfully no longer polluting the English game.

Refereeing at the WC will be a farce. Hardly any of them have any experience using VAR. It's a recipe for disaster.

I'm looking forward to the football and just hoping VAR is used rarely if at all. Hopefully the English refs are all off on a training camp to learn the rules and try and work out what a foul is. Moss yesterday wasn't great - the foul on Luka by Dawson in the first half a prime example. I think it might have been Moss earlier in the season who gave an offside against one of our players in our own half. Couldn't make it up.

It's not though.. Clattenburg was selected as the British representative for the tournament, but he then accepted the job in Saudi, making him ineligible for the WC - the FA applied to register a new referee, but FIFA rejected it.

I don't disagree with your overall assessment, it just bugs me that so many people are going with this "English refs are so bad, that's why they're not at the World Cup" argument, when it's factually incorrect.

Fair enough. However why did FIFA reject the FA's request?

Also I don't get why they thought Clattenburk was the best. He clearly wasn't. There are a handful that don't make the same number and seriousness of errors.

There wasn't enough cash in the envelope.

Why is anyone trying to make sense of a decision FIFA has made? When has logic ever come in to their thought process, for anything?

What a Motley crew. It's a shame BBC don't have all the games. Channel 4 would probably be a better alternative as they would be quite... alternative.

I will certainly be flipping over to watch a bit of Gardeners World or anything else rather than listen to any of Clattenburk's drivel. It's typical of him to seek out the limelight like this. I bet he's wetting himself that he gets to be a "pundit" on the TV.

Given few of the refs have experience of using VAR I don't see how a bit of training is going to help much. Also I would have thought reffing every week in a top league should be training enough. The rules are exactly the same so I'm not quite sure what the training camp would impart that would be so essential. English refs could use training in general in fairness.

To be fair at least there will be refs at the World Cup. There's no Welsh or Irish there so what on earth are Ryan Giggs, Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane part of it for?

And both the BBC and ITV have gone with the token ex-England women's player.

At least you can watch it in English. Since Fox has it here, I'll to watch it in Spanish. I can't stand either Warren Barton or Alexi Lalas, especially since neither one knows the offside law. Hint: the ball comes first, then the second last defender. Besides, my bilingual daughter can translate for me. However, she's rooting for Germany. Where did I go wrong?
