Being reported in a few places that we are entering contract talks with Cabaye who is not only set to stay but taking a wage cut: [Link]

Do you really believe all these made up articles with no direct quotes?

A wage cut is to be expected at his age, even though he still has the same class, he doesn't have the same output as he did when we signed him.

I don't think it is unlikely he will stay. We may give him a paycut, but he probably won't get better elsewhere considering his age. He'll get games with Palace too... no longer is he the only skillful player we have which makes it easier to sell surely.

I'm guessing that the only accurate part of that article is that we are entering into contract talk with him

As we are losing Cheek it's obvious that the motive to retain him is strong.

The signing(s) we make for midfield are going to be the most important aspect of this coming pre season.

Pardon my ignorance but is it definite that Ruben L-C is returning to Chelsea for 18-19? If he flops in Russia they might leave him with us for longer (hope, hope!)

I don't think he will be first choice in Russia so I'm not sure how poorly he could play and be blamed in anyway. The last time he played significant minutes for England he received MoM.

Chelsea obviously know his worth. However, we have to wait and see if he will be first choice there. So we have some hope if he can't break in as a regular and becomes fed up being a bit player.

Personally I think we have to forget Cheek because he's not coming back.....but I would love to be wrong.

RLC's stock has risen this season and whilst I would love to have him next season, even on loan Chelsea have the luxury of being able to wait until the last day to see who will take him on loan. It is only prudent we assume we wont get him and try to secure other targets.

really could see rlc being England's big (positive) surprise at this world cup. he's not had the same long season as most of them and he's a damned fine player.

There’s a good chance that if Chelsea want to loan Cheek out it’ll be to us. We’re not a top 6 rival, we’re playing decent football and he’s comfortable here. Where else is there? Southampton or West Ham or Everton?
