I’ll take your Benteke and raise you a Gareth Taylor.

One goal in 20’games and he knew nothing about it. Rumour has it we signed the wrong striker and should have got Marcus Stewart.

Signed for £750k base fee in the same season Les Ferdinand went for £6m so in today’s terms what would that be? £5m.

20 games, 1 goal. And made Jerome Boere look prolific at the time!

A true donkey.

It was hard to believe we signed that donkey Taylor when it was Marcus Stewart who was banging in all the goals for them at the time!!

It’s like that time we wanted to sign a good centre forward and we got benteke instead

I think that is a bit harsh on Wilbs. It's hard to call any player that gives everything they have for Palace a donkey and, tbf to Wilbs, he did, whereas I don't think Easter did.

OK, we've had a lot of donkeys over the years. Was Trevor Aylott really that bad?

I'm going to start with Ade Akinbiyi. Arrived with a huge price tag and turned out to be one of the worst strikers ever.

In answer to your question YES Trevor Aylott really was that bad. A shocking excuse for a footballer.

Agree Gareth Taylor was very poor. Cant remember who the game was against but somehow managed to put the ball over from inside six yard line.

Gabiaddini was another very poor and overweight player.

There have been many, but as strikers go these are as bad as it gets...

Calvin Andrew. He huffed and he puffed and well that was about it.

Plus I recall dowie signing a winger from Bristol city when we went up who was so non descript I can’t even remember his name?

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Peter Taylor' by Midlands Eagle

Reading the posts about donkeys got me thinking wether any player signed by Peter Taylor wasn’t a donkey?

Stuart Green, Scott Flinders ....

Still think one of the best chants heard at Selhurst were the hull fans from who we nicked him chanting ‘ Peter Taylor made you s***....’ lol.

Not only a donkey but all round lazy c***

Steve Coppell said Zohar was the worst signing (and biggest waste of money) he’d ever made

I remember a game against Southampton one New Year, we got a penalty in the last minute (score was 1-1), Zohar grabbed the ball from Bruce Dyer (I think) - took it so badly even if the saints keeper hadn’t picked it up the ball wouldn’t have crossed the line

He then went off to Israel (said he was injured) & we just tore up his contract - glad to get rid of him

Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season?

Wouldn't want to pin the honour on one individual but Les Strong, Tony Hazel, Brian Bason, John Lacey, Steve Ketteridge and David Price weren't great. The latter always looked decent for Arsenal IMO.

Not a popular opinion but the standard at top level is so much better now than thirty or forty years ago it's ridiculous. I get the dislike of Zohar as well.
