Congratulations to ITV (for once) for using Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" on their 2018 World Cup coverage. It's Russian, romantic and reminds me of the 1990 Italian World Cup theme "Nessun Dorma" in spirit. That became a memorable part of the whole experience for most of us who were watching or there at the time. The FIFA official theme offering by rapper Will Smith is appallingly inappropriate, has no relevance to Russia, football or anything else one can think of (correct me please if I have missed anything?). Absolute unmusical garbage like most rap.

I agree. Just a shame that everything else about their coverage is total cack really, from the soppy pundits, to Cl*****burg dressing like Jamie Redknapp and doing his bit. I struggle there, as, whatever he says, I find myself disagreeing. I think it’s because I have no trust nor respect for the man or his opinions.

BBC are no better, Ferdinand, Shearer and Fabregas are the most stale bunch imaginable, they make Lineker sound interesting. Rio resorts to cliches like a footballer parody.

can't we have a little bit of charisma?

Saint + Greavsie, Rodney Marsh, Jimmy Hill, or even John Barnes's fashion disaster suits - anything to add a bit of life to the punditry !

One of them should've used the music from Tetris.

At least the BBC only have about 25% ex-man u players, ITV is about 50% or more for all games.

Who is "Tetris"? Is he as good a composer as Tchaikovsky?

Original point of my thread was about music not pundits. But suit yourselves.

Not sure if it's official but this is the Russian one:

It's EDM but the music itself sounds quite Russian

We get this

[Link]

One is reminded of "The Day Today" from 1994!

As for punters we get Kristian Jack who actually seems to know what he's talking about, ex-player Steven Caldwell who just repeats everything Kristian Jack says and sounds like Alan Hanson and occasional reports from ex-referee Howard Webb who just agrees with every decision referees make. But at least we get everything on the one station (TSN) except I hope they stretch it to 2 channels when the 3rd group matches are on.

For a nation that only has a few professional teams and where "soccer" is way down the list of popular sports then I guess our coverage is pretty exceptional.

Why worry about TODAY when TOMORROW will be even worse.

Tetris is a what, not a who.

Its theme is a Russian folk song called Korobeiniki.

But then again it could of been even worse with the likes of Jim Rosenthal, Des Lynam, and god forbid John Motson .
There was no one like Brian Moore for a good old footie commentary
