IMO - these sort of articles should be written after transfer deadline day. I won't be making any predictions until then.

8 figure loan deal is presumably RLC. If true that’s laughable from Chelsea. I presume the £35m for a bit part player is also Chelsea and Drinkwater.

Not exactly sure it makes predictions as such, more gives a preview that I think a lot of fans should read before declaring everything a roaring success or a total failure

Exactly what I thought. The loan fee thing is a bit odd in my opinion anyway “our player isn’t good enough for our team, you try him out and make him better but also pay us an enormous fee while paying his wages”. I get that both parties win potentially but that figure is ridiculous

It predicts a 16th place finish. "(NB: this is not necessarily Dominic Fifield’s prediction but the average of our writers’ tips)"

I'm expecting a lot better than that myself.

yeah I re read it and although I wouldn't take their predictions seriously at the moment - I do agree its a good accurate read on where we are at the moment. probably more suited to outsiders rather than us Palace fans, as there was nothing in it that I already knew about.

The following quote from Roy has made me very relaxed, as I stressed at the time when some thought we had absolutely nothing to spend it wasn’t the case. ‘Survive with a bit less stress’ says to me that 17th was never the agreed aim, and I’d expect the meeting with Wilf involved Parish and Roy with Roy explaining how and when our business would be done and why, and why it was as important to Roy as it is to Wilf. We have lucked out a bit but this business doesn’t appear to be take what’s left to me.

‘‘The chairman has made it clear to me that, certainly this next season, it is all about survival again,” he said. “We mustn’t start getting ahead of ourselves and saying we did well last year, so let’s get even better. Let’s keep the modest approach and work very hard to make certain that we survive with a bit less stress than we did last year, when the knife was at our throats so often.”

Thought hat was an excellent well balanced and grounded synopsis.

Another very well written piece by Dominic Fifield.

A good article.

'In Roy we trust' just about sums it up.

Suggests a 16th place finish, less than we were hoping for.

Will be quite a scrap to stay up, after losing quality players IMO.

Tbh there’s not much difference between a few places down there so predicting where in those few places above relegation is pretty difficult.

The aim is really to not put ourselves in the position of digging us out of bottom place and hopefully a result or 2 or more always out of the bottom 3. The earlier window may have helped nudge Parish in the right direction, as well as some home truths and ultimatums from Roy and Wilf. Good window from Parish and co though so far with a bit still to do.
