The believable £80k per week makes up 2/3rds of that leaving about £6m short over the 3 years which is easily made up with loyalty bonuses etc. Signing on fee you’d have to assume around £5m plus agents fee & the £500k to Schalke. Possibly a £25m total cost over the 3 year contract. There’s a few sides could have afforded him but we have the London factor & he’s more likely to make the 11 here than other places. If he flops we’ve lost a few quid but if he lives up to his potential we’ve got a top quality player or a big profit when he moves on to bigger things.

Don’t all these bonuses fall under wages and therefore we’re increasing the wage bill, not decreasing it and subsequently breaking FFP even more than we were going to?

What a great signing that is. This will give the club a massive lift going into next week. To be honest I couldn't give a monkies chuff how much he gets paid. The club wont pay what they cant afford. If we somehow can get a new striker or one our exisiting strikers to start scoring then this could be a good year.

I seem to recall reading that ‘loyalty bonusses’ Can be written in as staged payments of a signing fee e.g. it’s, say, £8m total with £5m paid up front then £1m every year after.
