I'll start.
Mr Ken Tucky, a lorry driver from Birmingham. I worked with him for a day at a job near Stansted in the late 1990's. Obviously he had changed his name via deed-poll because he went on holiday a few years prior, to America, and really liked the blue grass state.
Told me he had Ferrari's and Maserati's at home, but he worked as a lorry driver to stop himself getting bored.
Very engaging chap to talk to, and I had no reason to disbelieve him.
Rang his company a month later to hire the chap again, but he had left and gone to work for Argos in Birmingham.
Apparently he was one of the heirs to the Bourneville company and everything he told me was true.

Florida about 30 years ago.

This little old lady teamed up with me and my dad around the golf course. She only used 1 club for everything and was scoring better than me (much to my annoyance).

At the end of the round she asked us to see her car, It was a new American model but she had painted eyelashes around the headlights and a lipstick mouth around the bonnet and grill. She didn't care that people thought she had ruined the paintwork. "It's the last car I will own and the kids in town love it and everybody talks to me."

Good on her, eccentric but also smart, I doubt she was ever lonely after that.

One more point

I have a friend in Beckenham in his 80's. Since he stopped work 3 years ago, he has returned to his hobbies of :

* Restoring his 1933 Rolls Royce (bits of which are in the garage, living room and kitchen)
* Installing a model steam train track in his back garden, of which a spur goes into his sun lounge for maintenance purposes.
* A single-seat aeroplane in his shed, which I understand he may be resigned to never re-building.
