He is despised because he is far too good for Scottish football. I stay in Scotland too, and he is adored by Rangers fans. The belief from Gerrard and many others in the Rangers camp is that he is good enough to move on to one of the top leagues in Europe after he does leave Rangers.

I watched him against Celtic the other day, and even though he didn't score, he absolutely bullied/rag dolled the Celtic defence for 90 minutes - he made a Belgian international defender look like he had never seen a football in his life. He is a quality player, and whether you dislike him or not he will move on to much bigger things than Scotland in his career.

P.S. doesn't every supporter love to have a player of their own who is despised by the opposition fans? A touch of Diego Costa about him in that regards.

My cousin is a season ticket holder at Rangers. Just spoke to him and talk up there is we are interested but fee would be about £15m

For the record he loves him and says the vast majority of Rangers fans do. He's a bit of a live wire but is a cracking player.
