Android Oreo in fact (whatever that is).

I have iTunes on my laptop, which "marshals" (?) all my music - whether it came from Apple, Amazon or was loaded in from a CD or other media. NB my music is dotted around in various folders i.e. it isn't all in the iTunes folder...but iTunes seems to cope with that (which is what I meant by "it marshals" ).

I have an iPod, so it's very easy to load music on to it from the laptop i.e. the iPod "syncs" with the iTunes library and everything new moves across.

Long story, but I'm probably about to get a new phone with Android Oreo, and it has enough storage to take my whole music library.

My question - dear HOL friends - is: is it easy to get the music from iTunes/from my laptop on to the Android phone, or will it be one massive hassle?

Thanks.

I had the same issue I can't remember how I did it now it was one of these 2 options or a mixture of both.

Option 1.

I think I uploaded my music to Google Android Play (Cloud) I then had access to that from my phone. From the phone I then downloaded from Google to the SIM card using the below link.

[Link]

Many people hold there music in the cloud which saves space on the phone but doesn't work on a plane for example. I wanted my music stored on my phone so I didn't have to worry about a Wi-Fi signal.

Option 2 Transfer from PC direct to Phone.
If this is not exactly what you need just google the missing bits. You need to understand where your music is currently stored on your PC hard drive or in the cloud. If on your PC the iTunes folder is in My Music folder.

You will need to connect your phone to the PC the cable needs a USB for the laptop and a mini USB for the phone. On the phone when you connect you will get a pop up notification select the options that says something like transfer all files. Once you have done this your PC will recognise your phone as a new drive.

On your PC you can now look at the directories on your phone find the one where you want to store your music Google it if you don't know.

Then drag and copy from your Itunes folder on your laptop to the directory on your phone. I would start with 1 small file and then check that it works. Once you are happy it does drag and copy everything it may takes several hours.

It sounds hard it isn't just a few steps and good luck.

Back again I think I remember what I did now.

I didn't understand what I was doing so I logged into my Google account on my PC and uploaded the music to the cloud. My phone was able to access it no problem until I took a flight and realised no WiFi no music. I then used that link to download the music from the cloud onto the phone.

In other words I went the long way.

If I was starting today I would plug my phone into the PC and copy the files over. Start with a test file this takes hours so make sure you are happy before doing a complete copy of your music library.

I bow to you knowledge sir on all things music.

Will it work on if his phone is in flight mode e.g. no Wi-Fi or 4G?

Put the lot in the cloud (itunes match) (Plex) etc etc so that is a one off for all devices, then if you will be in a no wifi zone cherry pick the ones you want to download to your device.
That way you don't overload your device.

Using itunes match I have 3.5 months end to end music available to me on all my devices.

On Plex (staffies collection) 2.7 years back to back tunes...

I think we have a winner.

You should organize your music no reason to have it all over the place just move it all into folder like my music.

android phones are easy no syncing needed simple drag and drop.

which phone are you planning to buy?

As with itunes match you can download some tunes for your trip, (on the paying version) then send them back up to the cloud when you are done with them.
Doing this doesn't remove them from the cloud for people accessing the tunes on other devices.

I'm sure there is a chrome equivalent but I'm super happy with PLex as it is already on my smart Samsung TV's available as an app on my iphones, apple tv, roku box, amazon firestick etc etc...

Just to be clear I have a PC running 24/7 at home with 6Tb of staffie's music on it, but as that all it does it can sit anywhere. This is my Plex server, it's an old machine which is on the net and has loads of storage space.

Itunes match is a little different in concept once any tunes you add are uploaded they are available to all devices without a "server" running all the time. I put my whole CD collection on itunes match, the way it works is that if itunes sees it as a bone fide tune or album it makes it available directly from the itunes store and doesn't even create traffic uploading it, which is well handy. This costs about £20 a year.
