We should be blowing the bottom half teams out of the water with the quality of player we have available, but we don't, we have approached most games at home like we are playing Man city every week.

It isnít just teams sitting deep against us. We also let them do this because we donít want to be counter attacked. We play 20 odd passes around sideways or into cul-de-sacs over and over again.

Roy said himself weíre very difficult to score against but find it difficult to convert chances. Thatís manager speak for Ďfind it difficult to create chances because itís safety safety safety first.í

We created a good few at the start of the season and in a few game lately but itís mostly pedestrian stuff, and predictable for the opposition who are okay for a point, so thatís how it happens so much.

14 goals at home or something is pitiful and it needs to improve, safe management or not, and these last few matches every season when teams take it easier and we donít because the players are reminded how bad it was at the start of the season skew the stats imo.

We create MANY chances. Our finishing has been the issue. Up til bhatshuyi arrived anyway.

I think 'blowing teams out of the water' seriously under-estimates how competitive the PL is. Unless you are Man City not Many teams regularly blow the opposition away.

At home we beat teams who finished 20th (2-0), 19th (2-0), 15th (2-0), 14th (5-3), and 9th (1-0). I agree that none of those counts as blowing them away but my recollection is that in all of these games we created a lot of good chances which we failed to take (apart from Bournemouth where we did better at converting chances), sometimes in the most inept fashion. If we'd taken half of our guilt edged chances in the 2nd half against Cardiff for instance then we really would have blown them away instead of drawing 0-0.

The disappointments were: Southampton, Wolves, Watford and, obviously, Brighton, and two of those are decent teams who finished above us.

Of course I'd like to see us do better at home but the assumption that teams will come to Selhurst Park and simply fold is unrealistic.

Hodgson would often rather not lose, than go for a win.

Not sure what he would do if he was managing Barcelona but with this group and at this level his track record is pretty well established.

In almost all home games and some away games he is conservative, traditional, fairly negative and fairly defeatist. He wants to stay in games, and nick a late goal basically. That is manager talk for being very defensive and not committing bodies forward until very late on.

Look at England now, versus under Hodgson. Its night and day. Players are going out there now with no fear and expressing themselves freely.

We did that a bit in the Bournemouth game but that is the exception not the norm. The rare exception. Against Bournemouth you saw players flooding forward. When PVA scores a goal you know we weren't ultra defensive.

Keep in mind, that approach has:

Rendered our form at Selhurst basically a joke
Given us our record points total in the premier league

Agree. I can imagine him being furious with that result on Sunday. A nice, 0-0 draw is the aim.

5 wins at home all season is shocking by anyoneís standards. I can understand being cautious against the top 6 and feeling our way into a game, but we were doing it against all the lesser teams as well.

We had the players to rip teams to shreds, but we played with the handbrake on...

Compared to 7 wins at home last season and 6 each in the previous 3 years prior. A dramatic decline in home form is startling then.

Wake up a smell the coffee, we haven't been great at home for years.

You can't go "gung ho" whilst flirting with relegation, there's a need for caution.
But once safe you can play with freedom, and be able to take risks.
Ultimately since Roy has been here we've never really been under threat of relegation, despite at times having many players out injured.
Be careful what you wish for,Roy has done and is doing a great job.

You donít have to tell something I donít already know, but 5 wins at home all season, we wonít get away with it every season and having to do the business on our travels all the time will come to an end.

The season has finished and I look back on some of those home games and wonder what on earth we were doing. Some of the finishing, have another look at one of the Jimmy Mac chances, it beggars belief.

Why will it come to an end? It doesn't matter where you pick up points.
