I can only comment on those focused largely on London and it's environs, but they do seem to be increasingly short-lived or moribund.

Street Life enjoyed a brief moment in the sun, but once it sold out it's successor, Next Door, turned out to be a very pale and limited imitation. Kahuti, where many ex-Street Life members migrated to, closes at the end of June, due to lack of funds, moderation and interest (by the owner), despite having a sizable membership. Scooploop seems pretty quiet in most areas, but may well be the next destination for those currently on Kahuti.

I'm excluding local Facebook groups, as they're an entirely different kettle of fish, and sites that exist predominently due to a single interest, like the HOL.

Has anyone else had any experience or have any views on these type of sites?

Virtual norwood seems to be a graveyard. And the other palace fansite seems to be owned by Jeremy corbyn. Apart from that, did 'ron noades mum' website die a death ?

The best way of finding local dogging locations - useless otherwise.

The sites can be useful for generating publicity about police activities, planning issues and events.
Generally, the most persistent posters want to inform 'everyone' what their kid did at school, or hijack threads for political gain.
This ensures all the posters with interesting information learn to get a life (and stop posting), and less interesting people keep you up-to-date of their latest shopping trip to Sainsburys
