DEAD "A MAGICIAN has been found dead in the River Ganges after a chains escape stunt went horribly wrong. A crane lowered 'Wizard Mandrake' , born Chanchal Lahiri, into the river at Kolkata, while the Indian star's loved ones, fans, reporters and police watched from the river banks on Sunday. Rescue workers discovered his body on Monday evening after a frantic 24-hour search." (The Sun)

shamelessly bumping by own thread,...but The Sun's article describes a "frantic 24 hour search" The frantic searching should have been done in the first five minutes. 23 hours and 55 minutes was mundane recovery work.

He was attempting a Harry Houdini trick. Houdini on several occasions was put in a straight jacket and locked inside a wood box and lowered into the freezing cold water of a river. The actual trick was that he could dislocate his shoulder to get out of the straight jacket and the wooden box had short nails that allowed him to kick out one side of the box. Still he was in pitch black freezing cold water and still had to get out of the straight jacket. That's one scary trick. I read something about Wizard Mandrake apparently he wasn't very good so sadly it seems he overreached himself to rebut his critics.
