On the basis that the transfer reports we are hearing are correct I’m at a loss to explain the strategy.
We have apparently been interested in the likes of Cahill, McCarthy, Jenkinson and Clyne - an ageing group of experienced players but all with problems of form and fitness.
We already have an ageing squad with a large amount of players in their late twenties/early thirties.
Because these players may be cheap they do not necessarily represent good value based on their recent performances.
In contrast Reece James and Ollie Watkins are young and perhaps would refresh an ageing squad.
But surely we should have established at the beginning of the window if James was available to buy or loan.
If the answer was no, then move in to other targets.

After the end of season clear out I had hopes we were finally moving forward.
We are clearly broke but it is bizarre that we have switched from the experienced names to young names, in a flash.

I think for RB we had Clyne in our sights, and could have been a good buy but he has had injuries. So not without risk.

We need at least one but probably two striker/attacking winger. We could also do with another left back too. That is

Many of the other names we were linked to are distinctly uninspiring. You have to think that now we're going to struggle to get the 4 bodies that we need across the line in time. I've always been a glass half full kinda guy but this window has got me down.

Maybe he can pull it off in time but we're starting the season next week - it would have been good to have got the RB sorted at the very least.

I now expect we will get one or two bodies in at most. Seems nothing happening today, won't over the weekend and then we are in the final 4 days of the transfer window. Bitterly disappointing window, as anyone we get in now, will take time to bed in.

Thought we would have learned by now.

Our best hope seems to be on loans again.

Still hoping to sign 5 players for £70m ...apparently...here’s hoping it comes off, certainly needs to!

No sign of any signings and the usual click bait rumour sites are not helping. I wish the board would pull their fingers out but we will have a higher probability seeing flying pigs than seeing any signing over the line befroe end of the transfer window.

Victor Camerasa looks like it’s happening.

If we sign 5 players in the next seven days I will have every sympathy with Hodgson.
To attempt to assimilate that many players in the week before the season commences would be a real challenge.
They would have had no pre season with the club, not know Hodgson’s methods and probably barely know the names of their teammates.
We saw how conservative Hodgson was las year in introducing Meyer, Kouyate and Guaita.
To make a couple of last minute signings is reasonable, but surely not five.
It would also probably mean a few outgoings which means further disruption to the squad.

It almost looks like we are just starting to think about it now. Equivalent of doing your Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve. May end up with some bargains, but more likely to end up with what no one else wants or nothing at all.

If we have a bad start (again) you have to say we have reaped what we have sown.

Would not be surprised if Parrish claims we're waiting for the AWB money to clear

Close season has never really bothered me much. There has always been something coming out of the club. Just a little effort to communicate would be something. They must have a PR department surely. Multi-million pound business, surely.
Maybe not. Because all we have got so far is ,Willy Woy, saving “I know nothing”. At the very least , someone could come out and say , we are trying our nuts off be patient.
Interestingly Roy, was very clear about what we need. That could be a reason to start worrying.

Are we really surprised in the lack of transfer activity or even lack of transfer strategy it happens twice a year regularly every year. The facts of the matter are somewhat depressing

New Directors bought in to assist in the financial liabilities and future development of CPFC : Both looking to get out with debts incurred to be paid back.
Both appointments sanctioned by SP.

Transfer Supremo bought in to set up scouting programme still work in progress after several years with very few results
Appointment sanctioned by SP.

Management retention until RH arrived running at a manager per year or higher.
Appointments sanctioned by SP.

Communications Slightly better than Mike Ashley at Newcastle and he is trying to sell the club and finally our Manager seems not to know anything that is happening on the player front be it on in-comings or out-goings what a sad indictment.

Is it any wonder that most Footballers of any elk strike a high price for signing with CPFC.

Michy Batshuayi is still a possibility

Castagne also is still on the cards

As soon as I get some further info I will let you know there will also be a couple of squad signings to add a bit of depth.
