The release of Come On Eileen is now closer to the end of WW2 than today.
That doesn’t seem right - like Jacob Rees-Mogg being younger than Kylie Minogue doesn’t.

I recall this song well and will never forget the year it was released, which was 1982, the year I met the lady who is now my wife and it used to be played in discos that we frequented.

cost me a bloody fortune.
only lasted 9 months.
2nd wife nearly 30yrs so complete opposite.
80s were a good time to be around, I was in my later 20s.
I'm 60 next year & looking forward to it.

Agree. The 80s were a great time.

A very distinct decade. Music, fashion, film etc. Not always good but always different.

Along with the 60s, I think the 80s was a special decade to have experienced.

More of a 70s fan myself. Glam, Punk, new wave, ska, Bits of rock and reggae. Some great films too. Some of the clothes were admittedly a bit dubious.

True, 60s, 70s, 80s all great decades for music.
I'd say the 70s were most diverse.
Always think of just glam rock for the 70s but of course we had punk, heavy metal, disco & heavy rock, not forgetting proper reggae & dub which was always played at punk gigs.
Probably the most impracticle clothes tho.
jeans or bell bottom trousers so tight it looked like you had a minge(or the basket of eggs as it was known)
awful hair early on until I shaved my head late 70s.
the shoes! those wooden sole coloured abominations.
Late 70s some of the gear was ok though, harrington jackets, boots, drainpipe jeans, Gabbicci, farah etc.

Yes, still listen to a lot of 80s music, The Associates,Icicle works,Doctor robert,Wah etc.

most people will remember where they were on live aid day(It was shockingly hot & me & my mate were digging a front garden over first thing)

Oxblood Loafers, Sta Prest , Ben Sherman and a Crombie. Happy days.
Must’ve been tricky for barbers who’d spent their life providing a five bob all-off to every customer suddenly being asked for Ziggy Stardust haircuts.

"Something for the weekend Sir ?"

I recall the 'Short back and sides' and the 'Boston'.Furthermore, Brylcreem and Silvikrin hair oil and the manual clippers.

Those clippers were often quite blunt so there was a fair amount of pulling hair out.
There was also Vitalis and later on the horrors of Cossack and Falcon hairspray. The ideal accompaniment to Brut 33 “The great smell of Henry Cooper”.

This certainly brings back memories.

I also recall the barber shops with those red and white revolving signs outside.I think there was one outside 'Andrews' which was right next to the overhead railway bridge in Norbury.Frequented this establishment, also Salingers in Streatham which was on the London Road.
