Can't see parish paying out almost 40m for 2 players knowing palace we will end up with sooty and sweep up front next season

Or benteke and ayew, which is a very real possibility

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Can't see us paying anywhere near £20m for Watkins, so if it comes to a bidding war, we'll drop out in the first round.
So who will we be after instead?

I think that Watkins is the real deal and if we walk away we will be making a massive error.
Only time will tell of course but I do hope we pursue this one to the bitter end.
I accept that we just can't pay silly money but we need to give this one a proper good go and not walk away without a fight.

If Watkins really does prefer to play for Villa which is where he started his career (see previous post) there's nothing much we can do about that. But I am sure Palace will keep trying - fingers crossed

I think so too but are we going to put all our eggs in that one basket if our transfer pot is limited (as it probably is)?
The question, perhaps is whether the Americans have agreed to fund transfers in anticipation of Wilf going and in recognition that if we don't spend reasonably big this window, we could be out of the megadosh league come next May.

There was a stat yesterday I think that showed what clubs have spent in the PL, Palace have never bought a player for £30m (sakho, Benteke both less) and have purchased 2 players over £15m. 7 years in the PL...

If it ever gets to silly money we are blown out the water. Cant see how that changes now with the added issue of the pandemic.

And their manager is Dean Smith. He signed him for Brentford from Exeter.

I agree.
Watkins is in control of this once £18m has been reached and if his emotions take him to Villa then so be it.
Without Grealish they will really struggle though - even more than us without Wilf so he has to think about a possible quick return to the Championship as well.

Looks like Villa are still ahead in the race to get Watkins on their books?

If he does go to Villa then even more important to pin down a deal for Fraser next week, and to bring another striker in? Hopefully Dougie's we'll known Scottish negotiation skills will persuade Mateta to Sarf London? I suspect this coming week will be a busy one for comings and goings? As usual any Dazza progress report gratefully appreciated!
