We all know that Scottish Football League matches kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon seem to end before the ones in England. Google it and you'll be informed that they only have ten minutes for half time break whereas we have fifteen. OK. But that doesn't explain why the first half in Scottish matches also end way before English games. Today I counted 9 Scottish matches reaching the end of the first half before any in England.

Any ideas as to why this should be? There must be a simple explanation. Perhaps it's because it's so cold up there the ref blows his whistle at the first opportunity to get in for a warm.

I think it’s to do with the tilting of the Earth’s axis. In winter, Scottish games finish earlier, however in summer, English games finish earlier. The spring equinox should see equivalence or thereabouts.

Having survived a few games they certainly don’t feel quicker.

they don't shilly shally and play act and they need to get back back indoors sharpish cos its so damn nippy, that'll explain it, and being further north the earth's rotation is shorter so time slows down

Putting aside the fact it's cold up there, why do so many of the first halves of Scottish League matches end before those in England? What's going on? Is it something to do with Scotland being further north as the.universal suggests? I can understand the final whistle blowing early because of the shorter half time interval but not the half time whistle. What's the science behind all this?
