Well readers, I write this with a slightly heavy heart, but hear me out.

He knows the set up, ready to slot in straight away.
Was close to being retained in the summer. Would be our current starting left back bearing in mind injuries.
Fairly cheap option + only on a short contract at Troyes.
Playing French div 2, but his club are third.
(Presumably) would welcome a return to the Prem.
We could get this over the line pretty quickly.
18 month contract would do it, nice pay rise for him.
29 years old so would bring down our average age :0)

Overall I think a very ‘Palace’ transfer. Not very exciting but probably quite sensible.
Thoughts?

I suppose that's true.

I didn't rate Souare even before he smashed his own legs up through dangerous driving.

pre-injury he was quick, a great athlete and could hit a great first-time cross, but he always seemed reluctant to tackle anyone. I liked him as a character, but I wouldn't rush to re-sign him now.

Transfer window is only a few weeks away when we might have better options, but he would be better than the academy or the Dutch lads if we can't get anyone else.

I've thought for a long time that PVA is a liability at the back and we ought to be buying a new first-choice left-back, not another emergency backup. Then again, we almost certainly don't have the money for that.

I don't think his broken body was ever going to be able to live with English football again never mind the premier league . Glad he has found a game in the French 2nd division and wish him the best of fortune a Merry Christmas and a long and happy life in France .

And we still need a striker

Not for me, not the best defender and made up for that with his pace (similar to PVA). He also doesn't look as athletic as he did when with us, same person but doubt it's the same player.

With the serious nature of Souares, injuries,he was almost certainly only ever going to be a fill in performer. No way should he be resigned now.
The only question where he is concerned ,was why was he let go at the same time as WB,? With nothing bought in to fill the obvious hole left in our defensive set up.
Even if he truly was deemed miles behind the game after injury, surely a cheap workman like replacement should have been bought in.?
