Reginald Dwight (Elton John) started out very early as a session pianist.
One of his earliest contributions was to the Roger Hodgson's (later to join Supertramp) track, entitled 'Mr Boyd'. I think Reg and Rog were at the same school

That's not an album track, is it?

Hodgson went to Stowe, Reg went to Pinner County Grammar [/anorak].

Not sure how many of you chaps read or browse through TV Tropes (it's addictive) but it lists quite a few "what could have been" scenarios in the music biz.

Read and enjoy.

I guess had it worked we would never have had that perennial favourite Lonely This Christmas and the classic Tiger Feet.

He also wrote, amongst others, “Can’t get you outta my head” for Kylie.

This would be a good thread for Mr Apollo to re-post the story about he and staffie going to the first Glastonbury.

I went to Glastonbury in 1993. I woke on the Sunday morning (I think) to find Evan Dando (Lemonheads lead singer, who played the Pyramid stage the night before) in the tent next to us. He proceeded to do a mini acoustic set with guitar on top of my mates van for a crowd of about 20 people.

As we were leaving the site, a bloke was thumbing a lift. He got in the back of our car and said some scousers had stolen his car. He was going to Elmers End.
We had some beers en-route and stopped to take a look at Stone-Henge. We dropped the guy at Camberley train station and made sure he could get home from there.
* Always wondered whether the guy was a Palace fan.

Strange days

Thanks for that Cuckers; I wasn’t aware of that site, but am now hooked and already spending too much time there.

I was on my way to the Midlands with my wife and had to wait at Birmingham New St for connecting train so we went to the bar. It is quite a decent bar.
She sat at a table while I got the drinks. When I came back with two pints, there were three guys sitting at the table with my wife.
As I walked over, they said 'We're Ocean Colour Scene, we're off to support Oasis at Nebworth'. They said their names, I think one was Dave or something.
I stood there with my pints in hand open-mouthed in surprise and said, 'I don't really give a f#ck who you are - just get the f#ck off my table'.
Obviously, wasn't in the mood that day.

While renovating my house about 20 years ago the usual bloke who did my floor sanding was unavailable on a month long job ,he recommended another floor sander named Woody who had an advert in a local magazine .

Woody came round ,gave me a quote which was very agreeable and he did the work within a week very efficiently . A few years later my usual floor sander rung me up and said he had taken over a job from Woody which he had dropped suddenly , he then asked me did i recognise him , i was like no .
Turns out it was Woody , the drummer in Madness , he had to do floor sanding and other bits to make ends meet when Madness had a hiatus or was a victim of diminishing returns .

I'm not a fan of Madness by any means , i actually think they're massively over rated , i have a lot of punk and indie stuff framed in my house and people that come round always comment on it , he didn't say a word .

Perhaps he was a bit peeved i didn't recognise him

In The Shakespeare in Victoria in the late 70’s I sat at a table with a bunch of fellows moaning that their gig at The Venue over the road had been cancelled because, I think, the drummer hadn’t turned up. They turned out to be the Psychedelic Furs who I’d never heard of anyway.
Also in The Phoenix in Victoria in about 1978 I saw Paul Weller playing the Breakout video game and Paul Jones, who was in the Blues Band at the time, wandered over to settle an argument about the programme on which Janice Nicholls said “Oy’ll give it foive”. He confirmed it was Thank Your Lucky Stars.

It's a proper thief of time. Full of utterly useless but fascinating trivia. Just my thang.

My step mum is actually related to Rob Davis somehow. Got all of MUD's autographs when I was a kid. Not very exciting or anywhere near my best rock and roll story but there it is.
