Labour more trusted to keep taxes low than the Tories, says poll.

Well well, wonders will never cease.

And its actually merited when you look at the facts, not the tory press.

And obviously trusted to be more socially responsible, not putting people into poverty, evictions etc.

A 4-star hotel and the corks popping tonight for the tory conference, why do we let them get away with it.

Funny that in Germany, lots of people rent all their life, they look on a house as a place to live, not as a pension pot, thats why they are always on holiday, spending the spoils instead of at home counting the pot!

Tbh I guess the rent in Germany is capped at a price for a size.
Sensible way to operate the system. I stand to be corrected though.

Under what conditions should an eviction take place then?

Charge stamp duty on every sale and purchase
and stop people using offshore companies to avoid stamp duty , e.g the Blairs.

Charge a punitive stamp duty on non British purchasers and have a proper checking mechanism . There are many countries where foreigners are not allowed to buy houses, we should at least be reciprocal.

These proposals would both generate tax income and help to cool down the rental market at all levels.

The problem is finding an equitable method that doesn't tax the same earnings multiple times as inheritance tax does.

How much tax, do you reckon? After the cost of implementing and enforcing them.

Agreed. Many EU countries have restrictions on non residents buying property. As these Pandora papers have revealed yet again I see no valid reason why offshore corporation / shell companies should be allowed to function in the UK.

We have no idea who owns what in the UK e.g. our own football club. There must be millions of UK acres where the ultimate owner is shrouded in mystery, why? unless they are dodging taxes.

In Norway tax records are available to the public so you know what your neighbour pays and vice versa.

Trouble is that the people who can reform this are the very people abusing the system so it aint going happen.

The issue is its the foreigners who generally buy the high end places in big cities. Costing multi millions to build and most are bought off plan. I doubt many UK millionaires would be overly interested so stopping foreigners buying them would slaughter the market. I'm sure there is a great deal of tax made for hmg on these purchases. I said before that there can't be many foreigners buying 3 bed semis; I would guess that's brits buying to rent. Maybe if a cap on value to a foreigners buying of say 1m will keep family homes owned by brits but not many. The crack down needs to be on buy to rent as hmg have done but it still doesn't mean rental is any cheaper. Anyone could also set up as a business to buy more so really difficult to deal with tbh.
