Their first two albums were classics but they lost their way a bit while trying to explore a different direction.

Black and White is a weird totally uncommercial album listening to it now but I did get a copy with the free white vinyl sing back in the day featuring 'Tits'.

That was a great experimental album and would have been lauded by the right-on NME journos if they hadn't apparently 'hated women'.

Captain sensible is a palace fan , not sure if he goes much

Massive Palace fan. Seen him and chatted with him several times over the seasons. He lived in Edith Rd.( not sure if he still has that place) beside Selhurst Station. Last I saw him was in Brighton pavilion having a cuppa(he’s got a place there) and he was being interviewed by a woman wearing a Br1-3hton top. Spoke to him and he said it was embarrassing and he was hoping there were no Palace fans around. He’s a top bloke and always loves talking about Palace. He was at the Spurs? home game last season but I think that was coz the band “Slider” were playing and he joined them in Lower Holmesdale concourse. Ollie’s Dad, Ash.

Correct. He’s Palace through and through. Top bloke by all accounts.

Where have you been hiding Ash?

I only judge stuff by my own standard of if I like it or not. No musical snobbery.
Nice and Sleazy was a good tune but the album generally was a mess. I never listen to it anymore and that is my yardstick.
That said, their first two albums are among the best stuff produced during the 'punk' era in terms of sound. but they never had the sustained song writing ability of someone like Elvis Costello who sounds better with time.

I never thought of them as a punk band they just jumped on the bandwagon I think they were better than most of the punk bands who thought sticking safety pins spitting and playing badly was enough.

It makes me laugh that punk was allegedly a revolt against the bloated big stadium dinosaur bands and today 40 years later those dinosaur bands are still playing in those big stadiums. Form is temporary class is permanent.

Punk really didn't exist beyond a fashion statement. Musically it was just a lazy label or a bandwagon to jump on to.
The Sex Pistols were a construct who did one proper album. The Stranglers were just a good pub band.
