I recently received my car renewal notice, and, as usual, went on to a comparison website to see if I could do better than my quote (which was +17% on last year). The cheapest comparable quote was +7% on last year. What surprised me was that it was from the very same company I was already with. They seemed totally unfazed when I rang to ask them not to renew my existing policy but to start me on the other one. Loyalty is obviously bad for your financial health.

It is all an artifice. Any insurance is like this. We had a Homeserve policy (mainly for issues we regularly have with the local drains. It kept going up and up and every year I rang and they offered a discount. Since I cancelled they keep asking me back first offer was £10 a month, next £9 for a year and this week £1 for first year. All a bloody con. Loyalty never pays
