Our players really show no interest playing for Roys negative football any more. its out of date...... in the premier league.

What right minded unless desperate new player what to play for Roy... I believe that why we fail in recruitment. hence move to retirement Roy. Maybe Bring in a duo that can work together..... there are always managers available...
can you imagine how hard it would be based on Roys survival football for a new manager was to come in end of next season, that whether we survive or get relegated. I suppose some are already thinking Warnock/Hollaway or Pulis are available lol

We have strikers who can't score, we have players coming to the end of their careers or im some cases the end of their contract. This current squad is in the main leftovers from previous managers. Roy came in and saved a team that under FdB was almost certainly going to be relegated He has saved us from that fate for three years now with very little support in terms of squad strengthening.
Roy had a quality defender (AWB) sold from under his feet for 50mil and he got nothing to help replace him. The misfits Sakho & Benteke cost a fortune and have failed to deliver, Benteke contract was renewed by Parish and Freeman even though he was awful to say the least. Its Freeman as DoF to identify targets and get them, Roy just tells them the type of player needed and he has not been supported. The reason why decent players won't come here is not because of Roy, it is because Parish/Freeman don't even get active until the last 24 hours of any window and then all Parish wants is loan deals, sick notes(because they are cheap), or players to sign up for half of what they are already earning elsewhere. We in this situation because of neglect by a clueless board of American Directors who do not understand the game and want out, they did not even know at one time if we didn't perform we would get relegated from PL.

Let’s get the facts right.
AWB was not ‘sold under his feet.’
Parish was interviewed on this subject and said he was reluctant to let AWB go but Hodgson and Freedman had persuaded him that it was too good a deal to turn down.
With regard to not being supported by the club Hodgson pronounced himself ‘delighted’ with the acquisitions of Cahill , McCarthy and Ayew at the beginning of the season and said he was very happy with the squad.
It’s fine if people want to defend Hodgson, but let’s not reinvent history.

Starting to feel like if we don't make several signings that it won't matter if God himself manages us.

100% true. If we mess up the next transfer window then relegation is a certainty.

He is hardly going to say he has a poxy squad. Hodgson always defends his players in public

I disagree about his unwillingness to voice concerns.
He said he was unhappy that signings were not made in January when there were rumblings that he would not sign a new contract .
It’s people’s prerogative if they want to defend Hodgson but are you saying he was unhappy with those 3 signings and was lying when he said he was happy with the squad at the beginning of the season?
Bizarre.

You are picking up on the one time that Hodgson said he was happy with his squad and then using that as a stick to beat him with. Do you really believe he couldn’t see the flaws in his squad?

And why wouldn’t he be delighted with the signings of those 3 players? 2 of them have gone on to be our best players this season.

Come on do you really believe that SP did not want the cash, and if he did not then why did he not reinvest it in the team. Roy is hardly going to say negative comments about anybody in public. Cahill,, Ayew and McCarthy were good acquisitions but they are not the striker, defender and creative attacking midfielder, that is the least we currently need.

Hodgson is not a long suffering martyr.
He’s a professional manager of 50 years experience.
He would not have signed another contract if he was that unhappy.
For me he continually sets the bar low which then seems to con some fans that he is some kind of miracle worker when we stay up.
At best he’s a mediocre manager playing one dimensional football that has been increasingly found out as the season has worn on.
Plenty will disagree with my view and they shouldn’t be too concerned as I suspect he will be here next season.

It is for sure at his age he knows how lucky is to have a job and he realises it will probably be his last. On that basis he is likely to approve of any signings given to him as this will be his last gig. It also probably does give him a more defensive approach in all respects.

I do find it amusing to see people lecturing on how to manage a football team from the comfort of their armchairs, in the genuine belief that they could do it better.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

From my standpoint I never suggested I could do better, but what is the point of forums if not to have discussions about the manager and players?
Should forums be restricted only to experienced football managers who may be ‘qualified’ to do better than Hodgson?
Perhaps we should only be allowed to support the team if we offer unconditional support to the manager even when unhappy with his defensive tactics, lack of goals and reluctance to try changes.
