I might be totally wrong here and can't be ar5ed to check, but I don't think Hodgson has ever played a new signing from the start of the first game they're eligible to play.

Why Eze and Batsman didn't start on Saturday baffled me. Batshuayi played for Belgium during the week, was in red hot form, scored two and was effectively dropped.

We won the game FFS lol

Eze had a groin injury last week and had only trained once.

Bats had just returned from international duty and then spent the rest of his week negotiating a contract extension and a loan move to a new club.

You’ve got to think how it would look to current players like Schlupp if an unfit Eze starts ahead of him.

Doesn't have to be necessary from South America. South America is just a discussion. But there are other players in top leagues in Europe who have adapted to top football and proven they can play there. Benrahma has zero experience at top level, so the Championship prices are just insane. Not a bad player at all, I'd like him, but don't value him at more than 10 million.

I think he meant adapting culturally. £10m for Benrahma you really are having a laugh.
Read the Brentford forums, they can deal with Watkins going but Benrahma is a different class.

Experience. What we paid for Eze is about the right amount. Villa got shafted in the Watkins deal. There are lots of great young wingers in Latin America if the scouts can only be bothered to look

20 Odd million is not a lot in football terms these days. Dominic Solanke, Ollie McBurnie and Everton paid £25 million for Bolasie 4 years ago.

There are a lot of reasons why clubs will pay a premium to sign a player from the Championship but a major one will be knowing that a player is adjusted to life in England. No use going around plucking players from random countries and saying 3 hail Mary’s and hoping they can settle. It’s better to pay the extra and be certain.

These are all transfers from within England and all that money was overpaid.

I think what me and that other man mean is that English transfers are for too much money than what these players deserve. If Benrahma were playing in Ligue 1 instead of the Chanpionship he'd cost 10 million at most.

Same for Solanke, McBurnie or Bolasie. None of them deserved 20 million. None of them justified those 20 million.

True to an extent, but their are several factors which make signing players alreading in England more attractive.

We know Benrahma is already settled in England. Playing for a London based Championship club will have given him more exposure to our scouts and more assurances that he can make the step up. Players from a Championship club in West London are more likely to want to come to a Premiership Club in South London. We might spend a lot of time chasing a French or South American player only to find they want to move to Spain. All factors that lower the risk associated with the signing and push up the price.

I agree none of them have justified the price but my point is that, this is how the market works. There is valid no reason why my house is 20k cheaper than one 3 streets up but it is just how the market works.

There are some smart people at football clubs and everything you talk about they already know but they just have their reasons for doing things differently.

Would he though? Villa have turned their attention to Bertrand Traore and look set to pay 19m for him. Now he might be great, but he has less goals and assists than Benrahma and was out of favour at Lyon. Ask Newcastle about signing players from the French League, for every Cabaye they've had four or five expensive duffers.

I do agree the market is inflated, but I think it's more the case that PL clubs seem to be forced to pay more wherever they get players from. I'm not sure Benrahma is the right fit for us, but he was Championship POTY so I don't think you can argue with 20m. Just because Transfrmarkt states his value is 10.5m doesn't make it so. The same site values Sorloth at 20m after one good season.

The common denominator being that clubs were willing to pay the £20m.

I think the question you should be asking is why clubs are consistently willing to do that as opposed to pursuing the ' bargains ' that you identify.

I think the answer to this lies somewhere in the pages of this forum;
You often see our club partaking in a cheeky offer, amid calls from an few people here to 'just pay the money'.

if someone sets a price for something, if you just stumped up what they're asking for - however ludicrous that might be, you're purchase will more likely be successful.

Yes, but Traore has them in a top league where they're worth at least 50% more.

And for example, Denis Bouanga of Saint Etienne has more goals and assists than benrahma and has them in a top league and costs between 10 an 15 million.

And what would be the cultural difference between France and England besides the language for him not to adapt? Come to think of it, benrahma is also a main French talker and he came in just fine. Seems to be the case with everyone coming to Brentford: Maupay, more rently Mbeumo, all doing great.

About Newcastle..I don't know if the French were their problem. More like their lack of patience. Thauvin is a world class player. If he wasn't given patience at Newcastle when he was 22-23 it's really not his fault.

As with everything in life no one wants to pay the asking price. Everyone wants to think they have achieved a good deal. Parish is no different.
