However you could add we always end up being shafted by Liverpool in the transfer market.

That's hardly Liverpool's fault as they don't force us to buy their players. Surely if anyone is at fault it must be our own team

I wasn't saying it was Liverpool's fault, just an observation.

I am not saying you, but this site is full of those (not without some justification) criticising the club's buying record of old crocks discarded by bigger clubs, leaving an ageing squad who are just off pace and vulnerable to long term injury.

We have now pushed X players through from our own academy, have acquired 5 from elsewhere, have bought Eze, Ferguson and may be looking to add Downes and a young CB; and now we are seeking an England youth striker to add to the depth of the squad and reduce the average age. If you include the move to a cat 1 academy, you might argue that this is the sort of risk this club has been crying out for.

If we pull this off, this will perhaps be the clincher in moving Palace on from perennial PL strugglers to an established PL club with great potential and knocking on the door of top six finishes, or am I just dreaming?

Personally for me, I think the club has handled our business in the Premier League perfectly. Have said for a few years now, even when people on this site were asking for Roy and Dougie's/SP's heads. They invested in the current 1st team with some large purchases that won't have the same sell on value, but it established us as a premier league club. Use the time that bought us to invest in the stadium and training facilities, allowing us to become a larger club that will appeal to more players and fans. Then invest in youth so that we have a conveyor belt of talent potentially coming through.

I just personally don't judge £20m for someone who has extremely limited track record as a good deal. Why not spend £20m on someone like Batshuayi who will hold our front line for 4-5 years and then use that time to invest in a young (cheaper) striker and bring them up through the youth ranks. For me, I just don't get it but appreciate others will have differing opinions to me. And I am fully open to Brewster and the club proving me wrong!

He wants more game time. Here he will behind Ayew and Bats, unless he takes his likely limited opportunities and forces his way in through weight of goals.
I just can't see why he would come here unless Wilf is heading out the door.

I'm not sure that anyone (except Painter) would agree with you. Other descriptive terms like "adequately" may be more appropriate as you have obviously forgotten the times when we didn't bother to replace departing strikers or when defensive shortages meant having to use Jeffrey Schlupp as a central defender

The one thing that Parish seems to have in abundance is luck as a less lucky chairman would have had his club relegated with the past purchasing deficiencies

Napoleon was urged to promote a general and snapped "yes yes I know he's brilliant but is he lucky?"

My problem with this deal is not Brewster,s ability. But what seems to be the widely reported conditions Liverpool are putting in to it. A buy back. And a sell on. And £20 mill.
Talk about have your cake and eat it.

That’s exactly what I think. He’s never going to play every week, especially given Roy’s way of signing players and then leaving them on the bench which unfortunately means coming to us would be a bad move for him.

Do you know, the more I think about it, the more I am prepared to take a bit of a shafting from Liverpool if it means we have him for a few seasons and he is allowed to grow as a player for club and country rather than have his career destroyed - like many others - by pointlessly languishing in a big club's reserves.

That said, I do appreciate this is not my money and I will not personally be in receipt of said scouse shaft.

You can't do that. When things go bad it's because the chairman was not up to the job, when things go good it's because he is lucky. No, it's because he has taken this club from the brink of non-existence to an established premier league club which will have (hopefully soon) an improved stadium, top category rated academy and a decent first team squad. All the while, managing to balance the books fairly well.
Also, given the evidence that we are still in the Premier League, we clearly didn't need to replace the departed/injured players at that time. Yes, we needed to eventually replace these players but as we currently stand, we have multiple players for each position in the squad and still have money to spend.

At some point, the negative palace fans will have to admit that he has done a decent job with our club. Like it or not...
