Praise indeed from a Palace legend.
Just how good is Tyrick and would he walk,as claimed, straight into the Man U squad??

He's not burst onto the scene in the same way that AWB did, but I actually think he has the potential to be better player.

He was pivotal in our first goal, with a great ball down the line to Schlupp and he was good both defensively and going forward. AWB does the last gasp lunging tackles that catch the eye, but TM seems more composed, better on the ball and I think he's going to be a top, top player.

We just need to be patient with him as he will make errors, but he has so much potential.

AWB is a great player in the making but that has always bothered me. He relies on pace to rectify his errors but what if he loses that pace?

As you say I would rather a player who doesn't have to do last ditch tacks as their positional awareness is good enough to spot the danger early. Anyway too soon to tell with Mitchell how good he will be but he is certainly good enough for us.

Now you see, I would have said that AWB quickly learned to leave himself a yard 'out of position' precisely so that he could entice the pass to his opponent and have the chance of one of those death-defying tackles at which he excels.

Early on he looked bang average with the ball, but made a couple of eye-catching challenges which not only surprised a few pampered wingers, but also got him some attention and praise on TV. That in turn pushed his profile up, perhaps a little beyond that which his actual ability level justified. As great as he was for us, I'd say he got the big money move to United because of his profile, and he got his profile because of a spectacular tackling style that has become uncommon in recent times.

I don't think he was out of position at all - I think he knew exactly what he was doing and why.

I've no problem with that at all - all players should be looking to get noticed to some extent, but Mitchell seems to have different strengths so far and is perhaps far less likely to grab the headlines.

It will be interesting when PVA is back.

Mitchell has been a delightful surprise (to me).

I'm still half waiting for him to be humbled (as he was against Traore), but he's clearly learning and improving fast playing at this level.

Improving game on game. Absolutely brilliant to see. Sure there'll be some mistakes and dodgy games to come due to his inexperience but great to see we've got a homegrown genuine option at LB. Competition for places is always welcome.

I think he's developing nicely.

As JohnB said, he didn't make the same initial impact as AWB or even Nat Clyne, but I'm seeing steady improvement game by game.

With PVA out of contract next summer, Tyrick could be his long term successor.

Imo, Mitchell is an improvement on PVA as a defender.

Look how quickly TM gets into position to close his man down.

Quite frankly, it's been hairy watching PVA sitting off the wide man and simply watching him cross.

I think Mitchell will soon be spotted and I would agree that we need to tie him down so that if and when he's poached, we get proper sums for him. Mind you, I hope he's with us for some time yet because he's one of the highlights of the season so far for me.

Just been watching the U23's in their 1st PL2 league match v WBA, last seasons 3rd place team, SCOTT BANKS, what a talent, scored 2 made 1, IMHO , TM will have to watch HIS back & as for PVA, find another position mate, LB is covered.

I agree with all of this. I had my doubts the first couple of times watching TM but he has grown in confidence quickly and the position is his to loose now.
