The biggest problem for Wayne Hennessey has been that he is not Guaita or Speroni. A large chunk of the fanbase fail to notice Guaita making mistakes which have cost a significant number of points, particularly in recent home games. There were a lot also who watched Speroni's final games through rose-tinted specs, great clubman, blah blah blah etc etc, but past his best, flapping at good number of balls, often worth a goal to the opposition.
Similar mistakes which Hennessey was and would be completely crucified for on here. He could though teach the other two a thing or two about kicking properly.

His kicking is outstanding and is a big plus. For a big chap Iíve never felt he controls his box enough but he is a good keeper. Far better than Butland at the moment but then poor Jack isnít what he was. Maybe he will grow back into a special keeper but I believe it will take time. I hope Guaita can avoid injury for many months.

The keeper also instills confidence in his defence.
Much as vincente has made mistakes the defence appear to have more confidence in him than Wayne.
Didnt help against Chelsea ok but that was a one man issue who had a really unluckily bad day.
Ability wise both have different traits but my point stands, imo.

We certainly needed an upgrade on Wayne. Hopefully Butland is the answer.

Didn't expect him to be since he is unlikely to be back from injury until the New Year. Why waste a space?

The fact that Jack Butland has come in and been given Speronis old number 1 shirt speaks volumes.

In the last season before Guaita came along and took over the position, Wayne had played well and made fewer errors than previously, and was a bit unfortunate to lose his place, although I accept that Guaita has earned being first choice.

Unfortunately people like to hang on to their perceptions and prejudices and Hennessey has been tagged by them as being a blunder waiting to happen, and ever more shall be so.

For all the stick he gets, he was a £3m signing to play understudy for Speroni in 2014.

Going back to 2004. We've managed to get incredible value out of our goal keepers.

Vessen - Loan
Kilray - Free
Speroni - £1m
Hennessey - £3m
Mandanda - Free
Guiata - Free
Butland - £1m

We have indeed, although itís rather ironic that Wayne is the most expensive keeper weíve ever signed
