4-4-2 or 4-3-3

Last season we played mostly 4-3-3 (some would say it was 4-5-1)
This year we have played 4-4-2.

In terms of attractive football I don’t think anything has changed with either option but we are leaking goals this season,

In my opinion it’s time to go back to 4-3-3 (4-5-1) with the front 3 as Eze, Benteke, Zaha. Then there is a choice between Kouyate, McCarthur, McCarthy, Jairo and Luka for midfield roles.

4-4-2 is going to end in tears if he keeps up with it because it is only 4-4-2 on paper as Roy plays 2 players up front against Newcastle who are not even strikers,

In my view Eze could be the key to unlocking goals in Benteke.

KInd of agree with this , but feel that our version of 433 was really a 451 with Ayew isolated and Zaha and Townsend practically playing as wing backs. We rarely threatened or got sufficient numbers forward.
We do look more vulnerable with just two in central midfield unless those two are Mcarthy and Mcarthur with them both patrolling outside our penalty area and not venturing forward.
I wouldn’t mind trying a 4-3-1-2 with Eze in the attacking midfield role but can’t see Roy trying this.

4-5-1 please Eddie.

We've never really replaced Puncheon and I think Eze might be the player we are looking for.

Adds a bit for flexibility for a plan B too.

I think the key is to mix it up and not be so predictable and 442 has given Zaha a new lease of life.

But if we were going 4-3-3 I would have McCarthy as the defensive mid and Bats as the CF Eze & Zaha either side with the choice to switch.

JM is better at protecting the centre backs and more comfortable on the ball in his own third than the others. He also brings nous and a nasty edge.

I don't think Bats does the lone striker job particularly well but at least he has some idea where the goal is. This latest fashion that Benteke has somehow become good at holding the ball up and leading the line is a myth / clutching at straws.

4-2-3-1 for me.

We have problems in defence and it stems from having the slowest CBs on the pitch. I'd like to see Tomkins and Sakho back together - that was our best CB pairing.

The midfield should be Jairo and one other of our functional blockers. Probably Kouyate right now or maybe McCarthy. Jimmy Mac needs a breather.

Then Wilf, Eze and either Andros, Schlupp or Ayew.

Striker is either Tekkers or Batman (or at a push Ayew)
