This is being played tonight & one of the new signings Danny Imray starts. He was the lad who was our 'Trialist' in our last game, Home to Norwich & as Doombear has mentioned, looked VERY useful

Its not being broadcast on PalaceTV, will try to update as & when im able.

Development football should be about, well, developing of course but even so it suddenly seems important for the u23s to win games and get promoted to the top flight as part of the anticipated growth and significance of the academy set up.

I would have presumed that losing Kirby, Woods etc would weaken the side, but if its true that the younger groups are the more promising then perhaps those loans were more about clearing spaces in the u23s than anything else.

Can those who watch the u23s regularly provide any insight?

Is it possible to watch the u18's game online anywhere? Top of the table clash against Fulham today.

Don’t think so, winning 2-0

I watched last weeks U23 game against Norwich and we comfortably won 4-0 without the loanees and without any senior squad members which suggests that the younger ones were able to fill the gaps.

Overall the U23s is a bit of a melting pot. Mark Bright, who usually provides the co-commentary on the Under 23 games on Palace TV, said it is difficult to read too much into the results of these matches. The line-up can change so much from game to game resulting in no consistency. I watched an U23 game before Christmas (Newcastle I think) when 4 players from the senior squad were playing, whereas last Monday, as I mentioned, there were none.

That's not to say U23 games have no value. It obviously provides game time for those on the fringes of the senior squad, and does give the younger age groups a chance to step up play at a slightly higher level, and on occasions play alongside, or against, senior players.

As for Kirby, Woods and others going out on loan, I guess the feeling is that they can only go so far playing U23 games, and if there is no space in the senior squad, then some time playing senior football elsewhere is the best thing for them.
