We all need a lift at the moment, and one of our most respected journalists Dominic Fifield who is close to the club and whose opinion a lot of us respect, thinks there will be a massive rebuild in the summer, possible new manager and he also thinks our two billionaire American board members will spend a fair chunk of their money to help with the huge overhaul. Hopefully this will come to fruition.

I hope you are right but I have seen nothing from the Americans to suggest they have had a change of heart, perhaps some form of a public statement would be nice we never here from them anyway.

Perhaps the Americans have been following the football closely and have come to realise that it is highly likely that their investment will be relegated next season if they don't put their hands in their pockets.

Talking of exciting times, our new shining star that is Eze has a big item in the Mail today with the headline 'The Cage Fighter'. Similar item on the Palace website.

Hopefully he will feature in our exciting times ahead, but can't help thinking he won't be with us long if he continues to shine and improve as a player. He will certainly become attractive to other clubs, more so than Zaha as he has a calmer attitude, and will attract big money offers that will possibly become difficult to ignore.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

If true that certainly is exciting news.

I just had another thought, the Americans are businessmen perhaps they have decided that the costs of buying players and their wages is likely to go down, so making the club a more attractive investment.

Of course I have also argued why would you buy a football club so I am all over the place on this.

I am old enough to have developed a very healthy sense of scepticism.

So I'll believe it when I see these 'exciting' personnel on the pitch and on the touchline.

I'm not convinced that it will be in my lifetime - an estimated 20 years.

Absolute bulls*** from the point where it says the billionaire owners can spend what they want, they can't, ffp won't allow us to throw money around.

Players like Sakho, Bentenke, Cahill and PvA account for a huge share of our wages (probably in the region of £15m per annum) and so while we may have to spend to bring in players, if we go for potential like with Eze the wage bill should drop considerably, which could compensate for any fees we have to pay.

Given the age of our manager and many of the players who are coming out of contract the club's hand is being somewhat forced as change has to happen either this summer or the following one. If they can afford to, now might actually be the right time to invest as some of the most successful businesses recognise that if you invest in the future when times are hard you can steal a march on the competition when things do recover. We could probably get players cheaper and might even get them on lower contracts, which if they perform well we can renegotiate down the line.

Having said all that, given The Athletic is a newcomer looking to gain subscribers, it could just be Dominic is being a veritable pr!ck tease to add some excitement in an otherwise repetitive world of online "journalism". His wording certainly sounds more like conjecture than fact based.

The word "Think" was used twice.

Isn't FFP over a cycle of years - not just one? We've hardly spent a bundle in the last couple so there may be room to splash out this summer and rein in next year. However if big offers come in for Eze the board may be tempted and that would keep FFP at bay.

In any case our wealthy owners may be happy to pay the penalty if their new investment results in our value as a club increasing after a summer revamp.

We can dream!
