exactly this

Let's see SP and the board trying to line up for a piss in the AW toilets at half time before peddling the new stand. We're the Arthur over here and the facilities are a disgrace

Please read posts carefully.

"Looking certain for relegation" is different to
" certain relegation ".

All opinions welcome and as is the nature of opinions subjective.

Using your math if we have continued for the next 34 games with the same ppg how many would we have had at the end of the season?

Surely some mistake?
By my calculation there were 34 games left with a squad containing Zaha, Cabaye, RLC Tomkins and Sakho,Mcarthur,Townsend and PVA when they were all good.
As well as solid pros like Ward and Dann.
I'm not suggesting Hodgson didn't do a decent job but he inherited a far superior squad to Pulis and had more time to turn it around.

That’s why the word ‘almost’ was inserted before ‘certain relegation.’
The post was perfectly well understood prior to being responded to.
Furthermore, to use the first four games to extrapolate the results for the rest of the season would have meant projecting 34 more defeats.
I would have thought this most unlikely.
I’ve acknowledged Hodgson did a decent job that season, but the central point was that he he had a good squad and there were 34 games to turn it around which was the vast bulk of the season.
Hardly a miracle worker.

Although Mr Hodgson joined after 4 games, after 7 games we had lost the lot and not scored a solitary goal which was a 'first' in the PL.

We only won 1 of our first 12 games and were firm favourites for relegation. It was only in our 17th game, home to Watford, when a 2-1 win saw us off the bottom for the first time, accordingly we were bottom for nearly half the season.

We finished 11th which was a creditable feat given the above.

Yes, so by those statistics we won only one of his first 8 games in charge so he surely contributed to the problem he later ‘rescued’ us from!
It can be ‘spun’ any way that people want and of course I am not denying that it was a creditable achievement.
But there were plenty of games left and a good squad as highlighted.
Pulis inherited a shambles and was the true ‘miracle worker’ although many fans dislike him because of the way he departed.
It doesn’t mean Hodgson didn’t do a decent job during the season in question (after his first 8 games)!

Of those 8 games, FDB was in charge for the first 4, Mr Hodgson first 3 games included fixtures against Man C and Man Utd, both away. Our first win was against Chelsea which was remarkable in the circumstances.

With the utmost respect you said, and I quote,
‘We won only 1 of our first 12 games.’
If this is correct FDB was only manager of the first 4 with Hodgson in charge of the subsequent 8.
Did you make a mistake in your statement?

I believe no other team has stayed up after losing the first 7 games, and as Willo has pointed out 2 of the 3 games Ray lost were against Man City and United.

Ray did a great job and to deny this seems bizarre to me

There are plenty of good reasons why Roy should go, but there seems to be more and more posters that are reaching and blaming Roy for everything even if it has nothing to do with him

Mr Hodgson was of course in charge for the next 8 matches.

On the back of the first 4 under FDB, we lost the next 3, and 2 of those were away at Man Utd and Man C, games we certainly we were not expected to get anything from after our start to the season.
We emerged victorious in the next game, a 2-1 win over Chelsea which was certainly unexpected and most welcome.

Following Chelsea we lost by the single goal at Newcastle and Tottenham and drew against Everton and W.Ham before recording a home win against Stoke.

Indeed 1 win in our first 12 games but one has to look at the results under Mr Hodgson in context.

I fondly remember the scenes after the final whistle, people hugging and laughing outside the ground afterwards, it was like VE day!

So the fact that it took 8 games to turn it round would actually indicate that the squad, though good on paper, actually needed time to gel and take on Roy's coaching. And I agree that the squad was good, even though they had to overcome a severely underperforming striker in Benteke who scored only 3 PL goals that season.
From your posts it is clear you don't think highly of Hodgson. I actually think some of the football in that season was amongst the best that Palace have played since their Premiership return so I would value Hodgson's contribution in that year as significantly better than 'decent'.
I would agree that Pulis's achievement was the greater if we are seeking to rank them in some sort of order but of that team I would take the 13/14 version of Ward and Dann, Jedinak for Luka and Puncheon for Townsend (and possibly Bolasie too) above what we currently have in place. So there were some very good players in that 13/14 side, but obviously a number that were relatively weak too.

And then there was the 1-0 win under Pulis at home to Mourinho’s Chelsea .
A remarkable result.
