I must admit I was absolutely delighted for Benteke. I know he has boiled all of our blood but I just have a soft spot for the chap.

It was certainly a tough watch but you can only admire the way the defence stuck to the game plan and gave their all. Like most I guess I was anticipating a late goal as we got tired and shocked to see 5 mins added.

However, they too must have been worn out after so much huffing and puffing.

Two cracking goals but Mateta doesn't yet know how to hold the ball up and bring the runners into play, which Benteke despite his faults does well. If they can both score regularly like that though we could defend all game, as we did tonight and win most games.

Those suggesting it was an abject performance are being a little hard. We are missing a lot of players so it was a necessary and gritty performance. Not pretty on the eye and a point would have been a good result but these things happen, often the other way, so let's enjoy.

And a shout out to Jordan Ayew who had possibly his best game in a Palace shirt. It was his running that led to both goals.

I was so excited when I saw that Townsend had a chance to take the ball to the corner and kill 30-40 seconds of extra time, I was shocked yet elated. And then he decided to cross the ball and I was furious.
