Theres a massive hole in the middle of the pitch where a central midfielder, or attacking midfielder should be (fulham played 2 of them, RLC and Reed). Oh for either of them in our squad....

I think Reed would be referred to as a 'playmaker.'

A metronimic passer of the ball who dictates the pace and intensity.

We don't really have one of them.

If I was the manager, I would change the system to 4-5-1 with two CAMs, keep the back four, Luka can be CDM, Eze/Zaha/Ayew in 2 CAMs, big guy at striker (I know Roy is slow-running Mateta in, same as Guaita back in the day) and Andros/Schlupp/Eze on LM/RM.

There's plenty of people in football who are vastly experienced and it doesn't make them great. And I'm not one for kneeling at his feet for keeping us up because there are a lot of managers who could of done the same without ruining the enjoyment of football at the same time.

I would never refer to Mr Hodgson as a "Dinosaur".A manager/coach does not last 45 years without the capacity to evolve.

Willo - why do you keep referring to Roy as "Mr Hodgson" it comes across as if it gives you/him some additional gravitas..!!

It's just really annoying - he's Roy and IMO he's coaching and formations are now being shown as being archaic and outdated, so the reference to being Mesozoic are relevant and appropriate..!!

The obvious weakness in your argument is that yes he has been in Management for 45 years - but is now well beyond his "sell by date" and "out of his depth" in terms of modern football, as his coaching, tactics and formations.

Today's game and performance being a prime example of that.

Time to move on..!!

True. But you are not going to sack the guy who does the job good for a guy who might do the same job just as good, just more flamboyantly.

So 2 impressive outfits, 1 in the relegation zone and the other 3 points outside it. I think you may be missing the bigger picture.

Well 12 games to play and only 3 points difference so I think if Fulham can keep it going they should stay up.

Let's presume that this brand of godawful negative s*** football keeps us up this season. Hands up who wants some more next season?

It won't go on keeping us up. We'll probably stay up this season but another season of this and it may be our last in the PL.

At least earlier in the season we put in a few decent showings for half of some matches. Now there is nothing to redeem our abysmal performances. We are truly shocking.

If the other option is going all in on J-9 like Sunderland & Portsmouth, then sign me up for another season of me moaning about negative football while we very easily stay in PL looking like s***e.

Portsmouth were relegated 10 years ago and there have been 29 other relegations since then. Likewise there have been 17 other relegations since Sunderland got their marching orders

Fixtures have fallen kindly for us before we start crowing about points tally so far. I would be surprised if we get more than 4 points from our remaining fixtures, which include the traditional top 6, Leicester, Everton and Villa. Shame we did not hang on to Banks and Woods and try a few different things with different players over the rest of the season. 4-4-2, hanging on for a clean sheet Royball is what we have in store, which is a huge pity.

It doesn’t have to the type of football we suffered today OR we’ll go down does it! A balance can be struck.

The negative overly cautious approach to every game is set by Roy.

For him to say post match that basically a draw was all we could have hoped for today is nuts! We couldn’t have HOPED for more? Really-is this what it’s come to?

I am in total disagreement with the points raised, but this thread pertains to the game and not particularly apropos Mr Hodgson so perhaps in the interests of HOL the debate shouldn't gallivant down this road.

In the final analysis I am content with a point even though the performance was hardly inspiring. One keeps hearing that football is a "Results business", and we have attained 4 pts from the Brighton and Fulham games.
