Vieira's comments in the presser today about wanting experienced players combined with his previous comments last week about Ramsey make me think this deal might not be as unlikely as perhaps it might have been. He is the only experienced player I can think of that we have been linked with recently. As I said before, if he can stay fit then he undoubtedly would improve us. The only other question is can we afford him.

In theory he could have Wilfs wages if we sold him for 15m, i think every footballer knows that the real big money is over, when contracts expire

I reckon the reason they are offering 75% of wages is because he is not fit to play.

Clubs do this sort of thing all the time in major sports when they want to move a player on so not sure why so many here don't seem to understand the reasoning. It's not at all uncommon. There is no need for conspiracy theories.

First, no club wants an unhappy player who can become a disruptive influence on their squad. We already know from reports that the Juventus squad isn't happy with the way Ramsey has been treated and the players have asked Allegri to let him return to first-team training. From the club's point of view, far better to remove that sort of problem altogether, no matter the cost, than let the discontent fester.

Secondly, if communications between manager and player have broken down so completely that the player has been exiled to train with the kids then it's past the point of no return. He's not coming back into the fold and you're going to have to bite the bullet and pay him until his contract runs out one way or another. So that being the case, most of us would rather save £25 on the pound if we could, once it's passed the point of no return.

Third, football clubs broker deals between each other all the time, many aspects of which never see the light of day. Maybe Juve has an interest in one of our younger players and as part of the Ramsay wage deal, there's a gentleman's agreement that we give them the right of first refusal on him if and when he ever comes onto the market. Who knows? Remember, you all think that getting Juve to pay 75% of Ramsay's wages is a big win for us. But you're ignoring the fact that Juve may well think getting shot of him at any cost at all is a big win for them.

My point is, there's nothing sensational here. There's nothing unusual in the structure of the proposed deal. The sort of clubs who could afford Ramsay's wages (the big six) have no interest in him and therefore if Juve wants rid of him as badly as they do, they're accepting that it'll have to be to a club who can't afford him, ergo they're going to have to subsidise the deal.

Known facts: Ramsey wants to return to the Premier League. He wants to live in London. He is wanted by Vieira. Juve has accepted the reality of funding a transfer (or loan) that they want to happen as well. It looks to me like there's a pretty good chance he'll arrive at Selhurst in the not-too-distant future.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

DOMINOES - REFRESHING THE PACK?
Viera says we need more experience. Ramsey needs to play before the world cup and prefers to live in our manor. Juventus are looking at Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Palace are looking at a young QPR striker, can we swap for Luka?

Lots of what ifs but it could fall into place for us to get a wonderful midfield genius and a young energetic striker this month. Maybe the decision on Mateta can be made later in the window, dependent on how he does in the next couple of games and if the transfers work out.

Backstop, consider RLC if he is still available in the summer?

He'd have to be fit to play ... for how long is another question?

PV has done well with transfers, and he seems to be scouting many areas at once. If this turns out to be true, I would trust that he knows what he's doing. Ramsey seems like a pretty high upside player for us. The downside is if we pay too high wages, and he's hurt all the time.

2017 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Middlesboro
2018 Jan. (Sako) Palace 1 - 0 Burnley
2019 May (Batshuayi, Batshuayi, OG, Van Aanholt, Townsend) Palace 5 - 3 Bournemouth
2020 Feb. (Van Aanholt) Palace 1 - 0 Newcastle

cheers syd. Fantastic response. Much appreciated. I hope we get him.
Will Juve only pay 75% until his Juve contract runs out? Because I read he is on £400k/ wk!! So when that expires will we drop his wages to say £70k/wk?

I suspect that it is bound for a return to Arsenal but would welcome him here if the money was right.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I suspect that Juve are hoping that someone comes in with a better offer that Juve paying most of his wages. This will probably be a deal that happens late on and only if some one else doesn't offer better terms.

You seem to think Vieira goes out scouting players. He has nothing to do with scouting or transfers, it’s done by Freeman, when a player is found, Vieira opinion is sort.

A brilliant player on his day, but do we need another sicknote in our squad?
