I've owned and worn a few replica shirts over the years, though I can't remember the last one I got. I've always found it dubious that I have to pay good money to advertise some company. I've still got a home shirt with no sponsor from about twenty years ago. If memory serves, the sponsor we had signed with went bust on the eve of the season, so the shirts were released without one. At the time it was a pain in the arse for the club as we were skint, but it was a once in my lifetime opportunity to own a current but unsullied replica shirt. I remember being surprised at how many fans didn't want a sponsorless shirt. I couldn't understand that. In the end the club signed up with a new sponsor, and asked supporters to bring their empty shirts to the club shop where you could queue up to get the new sponsors logo printed on your shirt! When I say 'printed' I really mean ironed on using the kind of cheap, crappy labelling products available in Woolworths. The cheeky b******s even stressed that this fantastic opportunity was being made available to supporters free of charge for a limited period! My only regret is that the shirt itself isn't one of our better ones. Actually no shirts are screen printed, they are normally done with a method called large format dye sublimation & the logos & sometimes the club badge if not embroidered is usually printed with a solvent printer......

To me this shows even more what a f up this is. On the one hand we are happy to take substantial sums of money from a betting company and sell shirts with their name all over them. Yet at the same time we do a deal linked to a group to help people stop gambling. Maybe next we sign a deal with a big brewer and then announce we are becoming a dry club? Mixed messages but my own view is that advertising or promoting gambling in any way in sport should be banned.

I chuckled when I read orpington's suggestion, but I now see that Spurs have partnered with Dulux and caused much fluttering in the Twittersphere. Jibes from fans were greeted by Dulux responding that the club wouldn't be able to paint their trophy cabinet as "Surfaces should be dust free before painting". After some tooing and froing Tottenham replied "We'll gloss over it this time".
