It is clear, from reading on here, that very many Eagles are living all over the World.

You live in Hong Kong, Dubai or New York ?

We all have ties to SE25 either from birth or by adoption. Some have left, never to return. Some are keeping the door open for a return one day. Some of us, alas, will die abroad.

You can take the boy out of South London, but you cannot take the South London out of the boy.

So lets have a thread about the above topic. Some considerations :

- taxes ( capital gain, income )
- renting the place

- just what exactly constitutes your 'principal private residence' ? Especially if you are peripatetic

- bequeathing it to younger relatives
- keeping it or selling it one day

- Owning more than one property in the UK
- simultaneously owning property abroad

- transferring cash to the UK, a little every week or a ton of cash to buy a house.

- leaving some relatives to live there while you travel

- sod it....sell up and gone to sunnier climes

- Brexit and all the new changes

- other considerations ?

I inherited my parent's place in the New Forest about 20 years ago. Kept it for a few years, but it was too much effort to keep it going so now sold.

Sadly, any thoughts of buying a villa in sunny climes are now long gone.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

My mum was born in Holmesdale Rd, my entire family comes from there. I have 5 brothers and sisters. Loads of other relatives. I'm not that old, yet none of us live there anymore. None of us have lived there in the last twenty years. We must be a new diaspora.
I have no intention of ever living there again, just doesn't feel like home to me. Nor to the rest of us by the looks of things. All of us lived within walking distance of Selhurst at one point - albeit a pretty long walk.
I get pissed and go over to a couple of games, that's it. I don't mind visiting for the football. Just prefer other places to live. I own the property I live in, but lost everything else in a divorce long ago. I'm not bitter.
